do you wash your undergarments separately from normal laundry?

i have a question that i argued with my wife today. i have been throwing my underwear into the washing machine with my normal clothings like jeans, t-shirt etc and now my wife is asking me to put a stop to it as she said that it was unhygenic which i do not understand. i mean i use lots of washing liquid, pour dettol into the machine etc to ensure they get a good wash and now my wife disagree and want them wash separately and she is not going to help me wash but want me wash myself. i think she is trying to pick on a quarrel!!!. i already gave in by not throwing in my socks into the machine with normal laundry and now this. soon i might as well not use the washing machine. what do you think and do you wash them separately?

We do wash our underwear seperately from other clothes. we also seperately wash white clothes from colored clothes. My mom said to avoid damaging underwears and white clothes from those clothes that fades.

If I do the laundry, I always wash the undergarments and white socks separate in hot water and bleach to remove stains and whiten them.

it seems like many would not throw in the socks and undergarments and wash them separately like you do. my wife is doing that but i am too lazy for it. haha

i think it is very hygyenic to wash underclothes seperately.usually washing powders donot kill the harmful bacteria and may spread to other clothes too. happy mylotting

This is the first time I've heard of this and I have been doing my laundry for thirt plus years. I am also an avid reader and try to keep up on everything that affects me. I do a load of my clothes. I do a load of my bf's clothes, I do a load of the towels, I do a load of the rugs, and I do a load of the sheets and blankets. I don't know about the fight issue, but I've never heard of washing the underwear separately. I do hand wash my bras and air dry them since they are delicate. And you can buy laundry washing bags for female underware, again, since this type of clothing can be delicate. But unhygenic? What kind of laundry problem do you or your wife have exactly? For instance, an std?

i do not know too cos it is my wife who felt that it was unhygenic to lump everything together. i am perfectly fine with throwing everything into the washing machine.

Your wife is right. We normally washed undergarments separately. Mostly if we are washing our clothes we separate colored to white color and blankets to set cover and mattress. We usually do this in order to make our washing in proper. Try to wash your clothes with all the socks and hankies inside the washing machine and look what happen. They are not cleaned. And we are not satisfied.

unhygenic? seriously, thats why you wash them so they get clean. it doesnt matter what is in there as long as you wash them with hot water. i dont have the time nor the energy to wash everything seperately. who does?

my wife have the energy to wash them separately but not me. i would rather throw everything into the washing machine and isnt that why we bought the machine for? i would just add in dettol to rid the germs and bacteria but that is not enough in my wife opinion.

I wash them all together, except usually I seperate the whites, but if someone else is willing to do my laundry I dont complain as long as it is clean!

my wife washes our undergarments separately, but not because of hygenical purposes but because undergarments are delicate garments so she washes it separately. she even put it inside a washing net. so when i saw her doing that and explained it to me i always put my undergarments in the net so it will no longer go with my everyday clothes and work clothes.

I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing. I am a housewife and I will usually try to separate certain things but undergarments might as well be thrown in with regular clothing. I see your point of view here. You are just trying to help.

I used to wash them separately just to be sure that they would not get torn or anything by rubbing against something in the washer. Now though, I have so many shirts that are delicate too that I just wash all of them together. I do avoid washing them with jeans or anything with a zipper though.

i throw all mine in. i understand ladies undergarment as delicate but not guys. they are tough so in goes everything for me. too lazy to separate them and also it is easier that way. i would just dump everything in the laundry basket into the machine. add washing liquid and dettol and that it. i have no problem with it since i start staying alone in Uni hostel about 13 years ago

No, I was them withb my regular clothes. I never heard that it's bad to do that. Not saying your wife is wrong, but I've never heard of that before. The only things I wish separately are my dogs clothes, but that's nmot very often. They usually get their own load once winter is over.

yes. i have the same thinking too and i dun bother about them. since they are all what i wear on my body and how bad can it get since i throw in sufficient washing liquid and also dettol to kill the germs and bacteria so i think it is enough but she felt otherwise. i used to throw in my socks too haha but stop doing so now. now i need to handwash my socks and i hate it cos the weather is turning cold and my hands keep shivering doing the washing.
