shiny hair or needless torture?

I have heard that rinsing your hair after your shower with a cool water rinse will make it shiny. I was thinking that this couldn't really work. It sounds like needless torture to me. Does anyone rinse with cool water after their shower and does it make your hair shiny or not?

I have never done this either Trace and have to agree that it sounds like needless torture! Even in the hot times of year (Which is MOST of the time in Cairo aside form a few months of the year) I do not like using cold water to shower or wash my hair, so this is definitely not something I wish to even try I think!

I always rinse with cool water, both face and hair because it closes the pores, but I wouldn't necessarily do that in a cold climate. Here in the desert it feels good to cool off after a hot shower. Garnier fructis sleek & shine conditioner makes my hair shiny. Dunno about the pore closing bit, but I believe that alternating between hot and cool water is good therapy and improves the circulation. It is more fun than brushing!

I have naturally shiny hair so I don't need to rinse my hair with cool water. I have tried it though and it just didn't seem worth it to have my head be freezing in the morning or whenever I wash my hair.

I have never tried using cold water after a shower but I do have hair that has a sheen. After shampooing i rinse it well and I condition it.I make thick black tea, while boiling it I add a handful of rosemary, thyme, celery to the boiling water.I filter this decoction and give my hair a final rinse with this.I find my hair looking good.Even when these herbs are not available I simply make tea and use it.Try it its excellent.

I don't rinse my hair with cold water every day but when I play a gig with my band I want my hair extra shiny in the stage lights. My hair is bleached 3,6, & 9 shades lighter than my natural hair. The 9 (just short of white) is extremely damaged and gets very dry and dull but the cold water really helps. I get it as cold as I can stand, the colder the water the shinier the hair. It feels good on a hot summer day but can be torture during the winter!
