All this cold weather has left me with a terrible cold. I'm taking some otc meds but I know there's a few old tricks to easing a cough, a sore throat that sort of thing

Well I know of a couple of ways to do this. One is hot water, rye and lemon. The other is you take an onoin soak it in boiling water add brown sugar and then drink the juice a couple of tablespoons at a time a few times a day. I don't know if you want to try this but it really can help. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Believe it or not, good old fashioned chicken soup actually does seem to reduce the symptoms of a cold. Scientists say that it reduces inflammation that makes you feel congested and helps you breathe easier. My grandmother also always swore by hard candies - butterscotch to soothe a scratchy throat, lemon to moisten a dry throat and cut coughs and peppermint to ease a stuffy nose. I don't know for sure that any of them help, but they sure can't hurt, and they do taste good!

Hot tea with honey and lemon is always a good one! My mom used to tell me to gargle salt water also, but personally I'd rather have the hot tea. Or, if you're of age and you have the day to yourself, hot toddy is always a good choice. I steep my favorite tea in a pot with a cinnamon stick or two and a shot of bourbon. Sweeten with honey as you see fit. That usually clears up my sinuses and helps to sooth a sore throat! I hope you feel better!
