If you are to choose one, best response or star rating

Our star rating and best responses make us post quality discussions. If you are to be judged, which one would you choose? If I am to choose, I want to be judged through my star rating. Best responses are just earned for a short time. But who never wants to be chosen for best response. But it is my star rating that I value more. It is something earned through time here in myLot. Which one do you value more?

Well both of them are good pointers. But, what I would rather be judged on would be the time and effort that I put into myLot each and every day. I would want to be judged on how many quality posts that I make. Not my best response or star rating. Why? Because we have so many trolls that will rate you negative on purpose, and that is not fair to me at all. That brings my star down a bit. I would rather be rated on how many posts that I make in a day, and how much of effort that I put forth into making it. That is how I feel about the entire rating system. I would rather myLot rate me on this one, not myLot users..

You're right. The star rating and best responses are not enough to really gauge the quality of our posts. Figures are not enough to represent the quality of our activities here. It is subjective and not really objective.

You are right about those members who seem to want to mark other members negative and I am sure that in many instances it is simply because of different opinions on certain topics. There were a group of members on myLot who were very active a couple of years ago and they didn't care who knew it either. I was hoping that those particular members had found somehwere else to annoy people. Seems like it hasn't happened unfortunately. It would be good though if when giving a person a negative, a reason had to be given as that would be much fairer. It might also stop some of the vindictiveness that abounds but that is up to myLot to accept that is a fairer way for everyone. Like you I would rather be rated on the quality of the posts I make because that is the real deal.

I'd never given this a thought but if I had to choose then my choice would be the same as your - star rating

In fairness, with that number of posts you already have a 9 star. It's not easy to earn and maintain that star. They call it "myLot reputation" and continuous quality of posts make you earn that.

I just thought of something. I may be good at rsponding to postings but as sure as hell, I do not receive many responses to my postings. I guess that they are considered to be boring!!

I would rather have my star and be judged by that. Friends give friends best responses all the time even though they might have better responses by someone else but give it to a friend just because they are a friend. So I would rather be judged by the hard work my star says I do..

Well actually neither one of them because with both you are at the whim of other members, some of whom are not always "kind". I would rather people read and enjoy my responses, regardless of whether they agree with what I say or not. For that reason I try to make quality responses to every discussion I think I can make a contribution to. Best response is actually there on your records so to speak and it always stays there but your star rating can change in a second. As I said not all members are kind and in the past there has been an element of members who give others a negative for what seems to be no valid reason. Personally I do not consider that posting a response or even starting a discussion which differs in opinion to others is a valid reason for a negative. For most members if we are given a best response it is a sign that the topic starter valued the response we made.

I think i like the best response more... because this is something that cannot be taken away from us... unlike the star rating... it can be very tricky... since we do not know when our rating will drop... and it is quite difficult to reach the highest rating... i have a blue 10 star... but it is 98/100... it has been like that for months now... so i wonder when it will change to 100/100...

I see. You want something that when you get it, you don't to lose it anymore. That's one good thing that I want with a best response. You're right. Star rating does not change easily. But I am thankful that it doesn't go down easily as well. It's fine with me to maintain my current star as long as it won't get down.

Well, I would pick "best response". Even though if several people give similar advice, then somebody else is just as likely to get it as you are. The Star Rating, however, is nothing more than a Jr. High Popularity Contest. Anybody who does not like you for some reason can follow you from discussion to discussion rating you negatively. And conversely, friends can rate each other up even if their responses/discussions don't actually merit it. The Star Rating is nothing but an indication of how many people like you/don't like you, and has very little, if any, reflection on the actual quality of your posts. :)

It's a good thing you have considered that. While writing this discussion I didn't consider the things that friends will rate each other and some will just rate you negatively throughout your posts. Well, it's their character which are destroyed and not the person they're targeting for those nasty acts.

hi wrangel.for me both matters.I love to see both. But whenever someone marks myone as a best response i feel good because my response is being liked by anyone.I think best response is better than rating because if we get may best responses then indirectly we will get good star rating. happy mylotting and have a nice time.
