Planning for a party

Instead of an exam my Spanish teacher thinks we should have a Spanish Christmas party for the course I am doing. She will be assessing the planning that we students do for it. We have been put into groups: music, quiz, decoration, food and drink. I am in the drink group and there are three of us in it. One person will buy the alcohol and another person will buy soft drinks. I have managed to buy plastic drinking glasses and straws. I am going to make coasters. I have had no luck finding any cocktail umbrellas to buy. What sort of shop would sell cocktail umbrellas? Can you think of any designs for the coasters? Is a planning for a party more fun than revising for an exam?

Well I'm sure you will have found somewhere to buy your coctail umbrellas but if not why don't you make some? I'm sure that you could do a very good job of making some good homemade ones. Good luck. I think planning a party instead of revising for an exam is a very good idea, just think of all that practice you will get without you really knowing it. I wish you luck in your course and hope that yuo pass the final exam with flying colours

Party can be done at any time but exams has to be preferred first as it judges our learning quotient and understanding to that particular subject.

Any activity that has stucents communicating with other students is a good way of practicing the language, as long as it's done in the language they're learning.

Planning and organising a party is one of the best ways to learn the practical aspects of a language, provided you speak in the language and learn the names of various things related to the party in that language. If you had written this discussion in Spanish, it would have added to your learning process. It is a great ides of your teacher to teach yo the practical aspects of learning a language. As for cocktail umbrellas It shoud be available in a general store. you must try it oug in a big departmental store in your city.

I would much rather plan a party then study for an exam. As for the umbrellas I would look for them in the party supply stores, or of course online. So is your party going to be centered around Spain, Mexico, or where exactly. Depending on the party location would help me generate some ideas for the coasters. Good luck with the party, and happy mylotting.

Hi Maxine, Oh I would say planning a party is much better than revising for an exam but as it has a Spanish theme it is like a practical rather than a theory eh! I would pop into a local bar that serves cocktails and ask the manager if there is any chance he happens to have some cocktail umbrellas you could buy and explain what it is for. The coasters I would see if I could print off pictures of bottles of San Miguel and Sangria and stick them onto some cork board and cut out coaster shape, or perhaps some scenery of Spain. Have fun at your party. Huggles. Ellie :D

Do you have a party city? If not any party store or probably even walmart in the party section you should find the umbrellas. Since it is Spanish class, why not eat food from Spanish speaking countries and give it a fiesta theme?

wow that's very cool I would rather plan a party than to do an exam. I got some cocktail umbrellas from the dollar store. why not try also in Walmart. For coaster, try putting a collage of spanish speaking countries. or one by one spanish flags. or something about their culture like pinatas, food, songs, etc just put the pictures. Hope this helps
