http://www.shortnews.com/start.cfm?id=73834 how can they even think this is ok? i mean we all read (heck i have even posted about) how we are running out of water and yet they do this? i would not be able to work at a place that did this!! why arent they getting into some kind of trouble or being picketed or something for this by environmental groups??

That little tap can churn out so much water within a day? We are talking about a few hundred thousand litres per outlet per day! Wow... no wonder the coffee is so frigging expensive! It is to offset part of the cost of this wastage! And not to mentioned, like the article say, it can provide water to countries in drought with a vital resource! Man... talk about wastage! With that kind of water wasted, it can make an oasis out of the Sahara! One swimming pool every 83 minutes! And are they doing anything about it to reduce this wastage?

Now that the authorities are aware, and the environmentalist are aware, they are not doing anything about it? I am sure with public pressure, they will want to do something to maintain that good image they have with people. You are talking about a few hundred swimming pools a day leh. Not some puddles of water you can ignore leh.

who knows why, maybe you should start your own lobby group to prevent waste like this. There are countries all over the world that have major water shortages and then big companies just waste for nothing.

I go to Starbucks a few times a week because I like their coffee, and the friendly people behind the counter who always have a smile and a thank you make me feel welcome. Honestly, this is the first time I've heard about them wasting water. The quantities you mention spread out amongst all the stores amounts to an astonomical quantity...if it's true. Have you actually done some research on it or is this just a rumour? If you can find some facts and figures on this story then why not contact a reporter at your local newspaper? There are many columnists writing about Green issues and Sustainability who would love to jump on Starbucks. It would give the McDonlds folks a nice rest.

http://abcnews.go.com/International/SmartHome/Story?id=5964908&page=1 here is one example of a reputable place that has said something about it so it is true.. i have turned in companies before to the news and they never pick it up not to mention the bigger the company the less they want to mess with them.. except for mcdonalds haha

Problem is, they are not the only tore that does this stuff. If you picket them you have to picked all of the ice cream parlor too, because they use almost the same equipment. What they waste is just a teeny drop int he buck compared to other companies. People just jump on starbucks to make headlines.
