HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO OR LIVED IN ALASKA

United States

I was born and pretty much raised in Alaska. I have spent much of my adult life living in the "lower 48" states though. I miss the majestic beauty, rugged landscape, and all around feel of Alaska. I'd love to talk to others that have either been to Alaska or lived in Alaska. It is truely one of the most breathtaking places on earth.

Fireweed on Aleknagik - Fireweed on Aleknagik, Alaska
It really depends upon what you want to do while you are there. I think children can learn so much from a trip to Alaska. It is a blend of wonderful cultures, between the Americans, the Native (Eskimos and Aleuts), the Russian culture, and there are alot of Asian cultures there as well. The wildlife is also another lesson, as well as the fishing industry. There is so much to see, do, and learn. Yes, I think I would recommend taking children. I know I never had a dull moment as a child. Thanks for replying, I appreciate it.

I think it would take years to see all Alaska has to offer; possibly even a lifetime. If you ever get the opportunity to travel there; go. You will not regret it. Thank you for your reply.

No I have never been or lived in Alaska, but I really really would like to go there. I have heard so much about the wild life and how beautiful it is there. I have heard that you can see the whales migrate there. I would love to go. What time of the year would you recomend going?

I recommend June/July for visiting, I believe that is when the whales are migrating...it maybe August too. I have seen them. It is a woundrous site to see something that large emerge from the water. You will love every minute when you go. There really is no where on earth like it. The wildlife is a sight to behold too. Dall Sheep line the mountains. Ahhhh, I miss it. Thanks for replying.

I spent a year in Ketchikan and an unfortunate accident brought me back to the lower forty eight. You are right, Alaska is the most beautiful, wounderous place on God's created earth. It is worth missing. I miss it too.

Oh wow. It has been a lot of years since I lived there, so I probably can't be of much help. I know that the whole state (poplulation wise) has grown tremendously in that time. I lived in Anchorage, the biggest city. If I were to go back to live, it would either be to Anchorage or Palmer(just to the north), or on the south or southwest coastal area, such as Homer, Valdez, or Juneau. I don't much care for Fairbanks, although it is fine to visit. I think it just depends on what you are looking for in a community and what type of work you are seeking. It is a very expensive state to live in though. Let me know if you have any specific questions, I will see if I can help you.
