Back when I was still fairly new at Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner I had a aquired the largest Turkey I had ever seen before or since, it was around 26 pounds. Silly me, I tried to cook it in one of those disposable aluminum pans. Well this turkey put out a lot of juice, and the pan was just full of juice. The when I tried to pull the big turkey and the pan full of juice out a bit to baste the turkey, it was very heavy for me but I managed to move it just enough so that some of the juice fell out in to the oven and immediately started a fire. The turkey was too heavy for me to pull out of the way to get to the fire. So I screamed for my husband who came and pulled out the turkey, and then proceded to pull the hot rack out of the oven while I beat the flame down with a towel. My husband set the rack down on the tile floor and burnt a nice rack shaped burn mark on the floor. It's funny now that we have had the floor replaced, but now I always cook my turkey in a roaster. So do you have any Thanksgiving disaasters cooking or otherwise?

That would be aweful. When we moved in to this house several years ago we moved most of our stuff in the Day before Thanksgiving. We had nothing unpacked, and cooking was simply out of the question. We actually had Kentucky Fried Chicken for Thanksgiving dinner.

The worst cooking disaster I've had on Thanksgiving was when I fixed flaming yams! When they were done I put them in the oven to brown the marshmallows and...well...you know the rest of the story! The funny part was we were all standing around sniffing saying "something smells like it's burning...but did we think fast enough to open the oven door before it started flaming...no way..to simple! LOL Anyway I have now earned the label for life of the "flaming Yams"

I am always out of oven space when it comes to the sweet potatoes, I usually do them in the microwave. I guess that has saved me from starting a fire all these years, because I am sure if I cooked them in the oven that I would burn the marshmallows.

One year my wife and I set the kitchen on fire. We had a big flame going in the oven and we were arguing how to put it out (we laugh about that now). My wife picked up a towel and just started frantically beating the flame out with it. Thank goodness it worked. I was about to throw water on it and she screamed NOOOOOOO! It turnes out she was right.

Not as good, well, as bad as that one. My mashed potatoes were lumpy once, does that count? Probably not.

LOL - no nothing like this ever happened to me. I was too scared to do the turkey after hearing about your incidents and mom's incidents when she did her first turkey. I let me husband handle the turkey cooking!
