Do you still keep your wedding gown?

Since I believe that I would just have marriage once in my life. So I bought the wedding gown rather than renting it. I still keep it until today. In fact in the past I teased to my husband that we would go to take photos with my wedding gown in the park every year. But the truth is we won't go out to take photos with wedding gown because it may look silly now Wondering whether one day my daughter-in-law can take advantage of it

Yes of course! As a hindu Indian I of course don’t have a wedding gown, rather I have a wedding saree. Hindu wedding sarees are mostly red in colour with lots of embellishments in the form of golden threads and sequins. And yes, we don’t lend these to anybody neither do we rent it, for the simple reason that like you, we too believe in single marriages. Our wedding sarees are like special treasures to us. I have kept mine very carefully and even my mom and mom-in-law has theirs too. Its like family heirloom. And if you actually see an Indian wedding saree, you will understand why we call them family treasures. These are gorgeous, expensive and a part of heritage. My wedding saree is somewhat similar to the one you see in the pix, a combination of flaming red and golden yellow

My wedding dress was borrowed from a friend. That was 11 years ago and I still have it. She doesn't want it back, so I kept it. I hope my daughters will wear it one day.

I already have plans to re-use mine every year as a halloween costume. I love it, and don't want to only get to wear it once.

hehe. I've not used it once yet. my wedding is next year, but I have my dress, and couldn't bear to just put it away in a box and never wear it again. also, a lot of charities have wedding dress balls to raise money, where women get to go to a big party in their wedding dress, with lots of other women in wedding dresses, and the ticket money goes to charities.

I am sure every bride would want their own gown. Very rare now a day will one be willing to take over a gown from someone in the family. You bought your own gown? It must have been pretty expensive to want to own one. Here where I am, renting is more common. Partly due to the cost of owning one. The other being, there is no storage to keep the gown. So brides here prefer to spurge the money on renting a more elaborate gown than to buy one to keep.

Then you are pretty lucky. Not everyone has the luxury to keep their gown and at an affordable price too. Good for you!

When I got married, at that year it's the SARS. So everything was less expensive at that time.

I still do have my wedding gown and I've been married almost seven years ago. Actually, my husband just wanted that I rent a wedding gown. But I told him, if I can't have my own wedding gown, then there won't be any wedding at all..Fortunately, I found a seamstress and we agreed on the design and the price of the gown. And fortunately, the price agreed on the budget we had. I knew back then, that it was more practical to just rent a wedding gown, than buy one. Because it was a lot cheaper. But weddings are so special and I wanted everything to be that...very special.

It's a good thing he didn't tell me that if I still insisted on the gown, then so be it!Then no wedding at all. As it happened, his original plan of renting his own wedding attire, turned to buying his own, too.

I had to borrow my wedding gown from my sister in law because I couldn't afford one of my own. So, I couldn't keep the wedding gown, but I have pictures. So, that works just fine.

You are very faithful in your relationship and a very romantic person. It's pity to see many divorced couples nowadays. I have been engaged with my ex last time, but just before we were planing for marriage, she left me. It was two years ago, but I still the loss sometimes. Most of the people over here, will just rent the wedding gown. Although during the time of marriage, we will never thought of having the second time, we will still rent it instead of buying it because it's very expensive. On top of other cost (the photography, the function, the honey moon trip, the house renovation & etc), it's really an extra burden to buy the gown. Therefore, I envy that you are able to keep your wedding gown. It must be very lovely and meaningful to you.

Yes, I can see that you have a very warm (xing fu) family. What you said is right. The wedding gown is the part of very sweet memory. You could have the opportunity to take photos with it anytime. No problem, it's fun to see your son in your wedding gown photo

I bought my wedding gown as I wanted to keep it as a part of my memory. Who knows whether one day we will go to the park to take photos with my wedding gown again, but this time there will be one extra person -- our son

Yes I do still have my wedding dress somewhere. I was married seven years ago and I never had it cleaned because I wanted it to retain every memory of the day. I was a size 12 when I bought it and I tried it on a couple of years later and was horrified to find it no longer fitted. I had put a lot of weight on through having children, now though I am a size 8 so it would be too big. I think though the time has come for me to be rid of it there is absolutely no point keeping it at all.

Actually I am not familiar with the size. Usually I just pay attention to S, M, L etc. At first I even thought size 8 is smaller than size 12

I used to have my wedding gown, but I think that I may have given it away, I can't find it. I know it outgrew me, it was too small on me, so I think that I may have gave it away.I always wanted to keep my wedding gown for fond memories. I even wanted to pass it onto my daughter if she decided to get married. Besides, she may have wanted an all pure white gown. I had an silver gray dress. It was very hard for me to find a nice dress to wear for my wedding. Since it was private, I chose an gray and silver like color instead. I do wish that I still could have it. I did kept it for a while, but then now it is gone, forever. But that day will always be in my heart.

I still have my wedding dress. I have been married nearly four years. When I was little I used to dress up in my best friends mums wedding gown and other dresses. i will keep mine for the same purpose, my friend and I had many hours of fun pretending to be a princesses and cinderella etc. My dress won't be worn again by me, maybe I would try it on again sometime. It isn't a traditional gown though it is a beautiful deep red colour with no straps - great for dressing up in.

I do still have my gown: in 1970 just $150 but a lot of money then. Why did I keep it? Because when I took it to the cleaners they had a beautiful box I could keep it in! Seriously, I've thought that it would be fun one day to show it to my granddaughter.

I definitely bought my wedding dress and am planning on preserving it once I'm married. It's a cllassic design though so it may be something I can hand down to a daughter if I have one!

Good afternoon, youless. I don't keep my wedding gown. It was sent to my young brother-in-law many years ago. I am glad that he was not picky, even now. But my wife's wedding gown is still kept in the cupboard. Old wedding gown does not match the fashion nowadays and therefore it is worn no more. I doubt whether your to-be-daughter-in-law will wear it when your son is old enough to get married because it will be out of fashion in more than another decade.

I have been married for nine years and I still have my wedding dress. I do not know why I am keeping it, because I know I will not use it again. It is in my attic and that is where it will remain. I have thought about selling it, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet. Wedding gowns are such an expense, since the dress is usually only worn one time. I had a very pretty gown, and made sure when I bought it that I did not spend a lot of money on it.

If you really want to sell your wedding gown, perhaps you can try to sell it via the net. There may be more buyers.

Yes I too have my wedding sari with me. I got it made by one of the best designers in my country and it's the most beautiful sari I have ever seen. (ha ha) I have two daughters but I'm not sure whether they'll wear it or not. I use to take it out once in a while and admire but I'm sure I'll never get a chance of wearing it again.

hi, youless i borrowed my wedding gown from a good friend. she had it made by a popular designer but was only able to wear it for a short time on her wedding day because she had a second, and much lighter, gown for the reception. she wanted me to wear her first wedding gown because what she spent for it did not commensurate the exposure it got. it was very beautiful and elegant and i loved it the moment i saw it. i already returned the gown to my friend but i will always remember it. i do not want to keep it though, i would not know where to put it. that is why if she did not offer her gown, i would have rented one. have a great day!

I still have my wedding gown & we have been married for 5 years! I keep saying I am going to sell it cuz I am sure someone could use it, I just can't bring myself to do it! But its not like I'll need it again! And I am sure when my daughter gets married she won't want to wear it cuz it'll probably be way out dated! Its a very beautiful gown & I felt like a princess that day, but it was such a poofy dress that I kept getting caught on everything & everybody & could not go to the bathroom alone that day. So it ended up being more of a hazard then anything!! But still it was a great day!
