since my hubby passed away, i've had more depression than ever. I've been told i should take meds for it but im afraid of most meds because of getting breast cancer in 2000 over takeing Premarin. in my opinion, people take way to many meds these days. so, i refuse to do so and im not like depressed all the time. its getting better. if they would just stop rideing me all the time talking about it

Hi Bunnybon7! You might want to try doing some volunteer work...that might help you feel better. Check-out 1800volunteer.com for opportunities in your area. Natural mood enhancers include St. John's Wort (my favorite!), ginseng and chocolate (okay, maybe this one is my favorite). Good luck and... Happy MyLotting!

If you don't like taking meds it would be better for you to take something like St John's wort. SAMe is another good one. Exercise too is good for depression. FCheck with your dr first since you have emphashema.

I'm assuming you're referring to prescription meds here. I don't like taking prescription meds at all, unless I absolutely have to. I am more of a herbal remedy person. Have you tried that? Have you looked into that? There are some great herbal suppliments that would help you get back into the swing of things...

Sorry to hear about your husband passing away. It is never easy when one we loves passes away but even harder when it is one that has been close to us in ways no one else has. I hate taking pills that is why I try to find a alternative way to help the problems I have. I suffer from depression but don't take anything for it or my slow sluggish thyroid anymore. Your healing and I hope that it does get all better for you.

Does meds mean medicines? I hate medicines, and I hate the way they smell too. I try home remedies when I fall sick. usually, I steer clear of doctors coz I cannot stand them and the horrible medication they prescribe and of course, the way they charge!! Cheers and happy mylotting

Sad to hear about your hubby. Anyways, I have a hard time drinking medicines. I usually prefer to take the alternative or organic stuff or stuff that can replace the medicines, I always think that drinking medicines often usually have a long term impact on your liver.

I used to hate taking up medicines because they do not taste good. But still i was convinced to take them as I knew that will be necessary for my betterment. I had to cure myself with the medicines already. My sister used to hate taking medicines as well, but we tricked her by telling her it tastes like candy or orange juice or something. Good thing she fell for it. lol! Medicines are good for the sick but still I think, we should not be dependent on taking medicines once we feel uneasy or uncomfortable.

Well, medications are good for as long as it is presribed correctly for a certain health problem. But is assuming there is no problem at all, then I don't think it is necesarry. But of course, you should tell your decision to your doctor since it is them that knows best. wishing you the best of health.

Since when I was born, medicines are part of my life already. Medicines can't never live at my side where ever I go. I was born an over due baby and because of that my body is very weak. I easily get sick. So, even I don't like to drink medicines I need to drink it because the more I'll get sick. Everyday I always feel tired and it seems that all part of my body is very painful. There's no day that I won't feel pain in my body. But of course, I am not drinking medicine right away if I will pain. I only drink medicines if I can't take the pain already but for as long as I can still take the pain then i won't drink medicines. I sometimes hate medicines because when i drink too much medicines it won't be effective anymore to me. So, I must not drink plenty of medicines. Just like for example if I have a cold, I usually drink neozep.. At first my cold will heal but when I drink it again, it is not effective anymore so my doctor need to changed another medicine.. Well, I keep on changing medicines because if I drink a lot of it then next time I drink it isn't effective anymore. I always drink a high dosage of medicines because if its not a high dosage then there's no effect in my body. Honestly, I really hate drinking medicines because the more i feel weak..

Hi there bunnybon7 I am not a great fan of taking meds at all especially if it was for depression. I think it is easy for doctors to give you tablets and tell you take 3 a day or whatever and you'll start to feel better in a few days. The problem these days is not the taking of them so much as it is to stop taking them. I would hate to rely on such tablets just to get me through the day. Sure I get sad, stressed and upset sometimes but I just put it down to life I have never thought that I had got depression. What happens when you eventually come off these tablets? Will you need them again soon after because the tablets aren't doing there job anymore and you are back to feeling the same way you did before you started taking them as it is the tablets that make you feel better?

I didn't hate to take medicine. Medicine create to cure people. When i'm sick i will take medicine follow doctor's advice. Of cause i will try to avoid to take any medicine if there is unnecessary. It is good that try to keep our body in good conditions. Regular exercise and healthy food could avoid take any medicine.

I don't hate taking medicines because it really helps ease the pain your are feeling. It takes away the sickness from your body. But, one has to make sure that he or she has the right prescription before taking it.

I understand what you are saying. Even I dont like to take meds so often. My mother in law is a nurse and so she insists on taking meds for every little thing that ocmes up. Having said that if you are dealing with depression then it will only be helpful to take some meds. But if you so strongly feel about it then maybe you should take them for the sake of your loved ones for a while then may be you can stop once they are satisfied with your health

Im sorry to hear about your husband passing. I do think being depressed would be a normal reaction. I dont know why everyone feels the need to medicate everything. Depression is a normal reaction when you lose someone you love. It makes you sad and feel lost. I dont take any meds, I refuse to do so for anything that isnt serious or that will go away after awhile. Even for antibiotics I take garlic pills and that works for me and my family. Part of the reason is as I stated I think they over medicate everything.

I hate taking meds too, I think I take about 22 pills a day, throughout the day, not all at one time. I'm a heart patient, and I'm diabetic, so all my pills are for my heart, and blood pressure, I only take one for my diabetes. But I get tired of taking them too, I keep telling my husband I'm going to quit taking them, he said those pills are probably keeping me alive. We both agree that I might be taking too many, because alot of times I'm so tired and don't have energy, they have my blood pressure too low, I think I take 3 different blood pressure meds. but they are for different reasons. So yeah, I hate taking them too...but I don't know if I could afford not to.

probably a good thing for most of them. it would be nice if we knew sometimes tho if they are some we could live without and i think i can live without the depression meds

Hi bunnybon7, There is some medication that you should take but you should really talk to your doctor, but if you think you don't need them, why take them, I am 56 year old and all I take is my asthma inhalers and nothing else. Its how you feel. Take care. Tamara

I don't take medication unless I have to. My Mother took blood thinners because she had artificial valves in her heart and later developed leukemia. No one could ever convince me that it wasn't as a result of taking the blood thinners. Have you tried herbs to help with the depression. Not sure if it really works but I think that St. John's Wort is used to treat depression. I always try natural treatments and use prescription medication as a last resort. I'm sure that my personal experience with my Mom is a huge factor with it.
