I just wanted to wish all my friends here at MyLot who do celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow a Fantastic Thanksgiving Some of my older friends might remember my Thanksgiving "disaster" of last year..LOL...A friend of mine had given me frozen Duck Breasts, and I didn't want them to go to waste..Now you have to understand, I never had Duck before and really wasn't too keen on it, but like I said didn't want it to go to waste. Now I do happen to be a very good cook if I may say so myself and gloat a bit. So I did find a fantastic recipe for it, knocked myself out and prepared it...and...blagh. I just didn't care for that gamey taste. Well at least I can safely say I've had duck, but never again. This year I'm more traditional...I just finished making some Cream of Celery Soup as an appetizer for tomorrow. Then tomorrow will be preparing my sausage/celery/raisin/apple stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, the "bird"---chicken. Since it's only going to be me, it seemed silly to get a whole turkey, and the turkey breasts were too expensive to get, so opted for a roaster chicken instead. I'll also have my homemade biscuits (you won't see Pillsbury in this home..LOL), homemade cranberry sauce (won't see canned here), and my pumpkin pie. While everything is cooking I do plan to get some more work done...doing the end of the month crunch to get as many articles/reviews written so can have money for Christmas..I WANT THAT TREE...LOL So what are your plans? Big family hootenanny shindig? Simple fair? Nothing? Are you going to be here at MyLot? What's on your menu for the big dinner feast? The inquiring mind wants to know. I just started this interest too..that's one of my studio photos I took years ago as the interest photo..was surprised there was no "Celebrating Thanksgiving" interests here...also have a photo here of one of my former kitties Tippy who was "helping out" with my Thanksgiving Studio photo I did then HAPPY THANKSGIVING FOLKS!!! Don't stuff yourselves too much...heehee

I am having my Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday. My daughter and her boyfriend are going to his family's for Thursday. I will be fixing a real turkey, with sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, peas, carrots and broccoli, gravy and home made bread. Dessert will be apple pie, french chocolate cream pie or banana cream pie. I have a small group here, about 7 of us for dinner. Small but cozy. which is all good. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

I'm kind of surprised that other countries don't set aside some kind of Thanksgiving Day...a day to give thanks and be grateful for one's blessings in life. I would think that would be a universal kind of thing, don't you?

Hi pye, I agree, this country don't seem to do much, we have bank holidays easter and Christmas, we don't even have holiday for Halloween. I do my own thanksgiving by offering up a pray and do my usual thing, you know what I mean. Bright Blessings. Tamara

I will be off the next two days. Out of town with family. We are leaving in about thirty minutes. Taking the grandkids and going to Oklahoma. I have baked all day. My daughter is not coming for Thanksgiving as they will come down at Christmas time. My son and his wife had things they had to do but the grandkids asked if they could come with, well of course they can. My brother will do the meat, ham and turkey for sure, sometimes beef as well. All of us just bring stuff, mostly non specific, but I do have a niece who always brings broccoli rice and cheese. My sister in law wants a certain roll recipe, certain yams, certain dressing. I always make the cooked whole berry cranberry sauce. I also made quick breads and muffins for breakfast or whenever. Baked four pies and gave one to my son. Mashed ten pounds of potatoes (hate instant). Have a wonderful day, Pye.

Goodness ten pounds of potatoes for mashed? That's sure a lot. I hate instant mashed potatoes also..have a weird almost chemical taste I can detect. Sounds like you're going to have fun though with family members and hope your Thanksgiving was a good one.

That sounds like an awesome Thanksgiving. Mine won't be as good. This is the first Thanksgiving I have ever spent alone (well I have the cats so I guess I am not totally alone). I usually spend Thanksgiving with the in-laws but since my husband walked out 2 weeks ago, I won't be doing that. And with the condition of my car and the distance between me and any friends or family that I have, well I just can't get there. And well I am not feeling very celebratory anyways. I might get out to Denny's or somewhere for some turkey or not--haven't decided yet. But the football game will be on and I am planning to watch it. I am however, thankful for my friends (mylot friend included) and family even though I won't be with them and I will think of them tomorrow. May you all have a happy Thanksgiving tomorrow and be thankful for the important people (or furbabies) in your life.

I'm sorry to hear your Thanksgiving won't be as festive. I hope your furbabies will cheer you up and keep you company..I know mine will. I think they know something is up since they keep looking in the direction of the fridge...like they are willing the food to fall out or something

Happy Thanksgiving to you Pye! It's just going to be me and hubby and we're catsitting my friend's 2 cats while she's visiting her son for a few days. On the menu is Ham, fresh mashed taters, green beans for me brussel sprouts for hubby and chocolate cheesecake and pumpkin pie for dessert. My mom and stepdad are coming over Friday for a visit. Haven't seen them in about 4 months so it will be great to see them. Your meal sounds great! Nothing like making everything from scratch, it always tastes so much better that way. When I make a holiday meal I try making everything from scratch too. Some things I have to skip because I just can't stay on my feet long enough to make them. The desserts are coming precooked this year! I'm afraid the mashed taters are going to do me in.. Don't stuff yourselves too much.. I ain't makin' no promises! Have a great day sweety!

I've made stuffing like that before (sans raisins) it was awesome :) just the immediate family and the furkids.. i think they may have detected the turkey scent, they've been parked in the kitchen today looking for something.. We're just having turkey w/herb stuffing, biscuits, peas, cranberry, yams (ma likes them),mashed potatoes and some pies (pumpkin). i need to send bro out for olives though,i forgot them. and hopefully 3 cat night won't be singing for their supper the whole time it's cooking

Thanksgiving Cornucopia - I thought this was pretty, for Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, pye, and to everyone here at Mylot!!! It's just our family, 3. Can't make it to VA where most of my family is, or to NJ where his family is. Turkey, collards and turnips, whipped sweet potatoes with raisins and topped with marshmallows, just plain old Stove Top stuffing and pumpkin bread. Have to keep it simple as I am just not able to pull too much together. That's a great picture of Tippy and the Thanksgiving set up. All of your cat pictures are great (well all your pics of any kind)! How you get your cats to stay where they are I'll never know. I have a couple of good pics, but most of the time my animals MOVE CONSTANTLY whenever I get out the camera.

If we had known each other better last year, we probably would have traded that free turkey from the supermarket for those pieces of duck. Again, another free turkey this year that my father came down with. Oh - you are right about not eating too much. Especially for those doing a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, like they say, you are what you eat. Hmmmm ... speaking of birds, I wonder what turkey egg is like ...

Chicken eggs, duck eggs, pigeon eggs, & I've even had canned hard-boiled quail eggs. I believe that I heard about goose eggs for sale also, but never turkey eggs. How long has it been since we sat down & enjoyed a fresh pterodactyl egg together? It sure feels like ages.

We don't have Thanksgiving in Australia ... and we probably should. Yours sounds excellent and delicious! Don't blame you about the duck - I've had it once too, when a friend of my husband caught some and gave us one. It was gamey, greasy and disgusting - not much meat on it at all! Not an experience I'd care to repeat. Your homemade cranberry sauce reminded me of a movie I saw recently called 'Pieces of April', where the girl prepared a Thanksgiving dinner for her estranged family. Enjoy your Thanksgiving, Pye!
