I spent the whole day in the ER

Last night I hardly slept due to pain in my eye. I woke up this morning and could not open my eyes. Anytime I tried I got a horrible headache. Just moving my eyes under my eyelids hurt. Around 2pm I arrived at the ER. Waited, waited, waited. Was finally called back around 8pm!! Well I have a horrible bacterial infection in that eye, and a few scratches on the cornea! I've been given medicine that will stop my pupils from dilating, this will help with the light sensativity. I've been given pain meds, vikodin. And I've been given an antibiotic I have to take every half hour for 3 hours, then every hour after that. Then, I have to go back to the hospital tomorrow to see an optical surgeon at 9am... on Thanksgiving! But thanks to a bit of meds I can finally keep my eyes open long enough to type and check my mail. This morning all I could do was stay in bed with my eyes closed until hubby came home from work to take me to the hospital. When was the last time you were in the ER? What was it for?

Sorry to hear about your eyes and your ruined Thanksgiving. You probably shouldn't be trying to read or be using lights. The last time I was in the ER was when I was in labor with my youngest daughter. This past July.

My Thanksgiving was not ruined, at all. The pain was the day before Thanksgiving. I was a bit tired on Thanksgiving day, but it didn't mess up my plans at all.

Oh wow I am so sorry, and glad to hear that you are OK! I have not been in ER for a long time, the last time was over 12 or more years ago now and I was extremely pished, I had been out for the evening and I went to the toilet I fell over in the cubicle and someone had left a broken glass down the side of the toilet which I fell on and it sliced my wrist open. I did not know, I was so drunk I did not have a clue and when I came out of the toilet my friend screamed because apparently the blood was pumping out everywhere! To be honest I still cannot remember a lot about it, although I remember my mum refusing to speak to me because she thought I had tried to top myself which was totally not true. In the end she listened to me and realised I was just a drunken idiot! But it caused a scandal in my town and the rumours that went around were amazing!

Wow. I did try to kill myself once, not that way though. When the twins were babies I got really bad PPD and took a ton of pills. Hubby told his parents and they told his sister, when I got out of the hospital they were all at my house cleaning it for me. He also told his boss. It was very embarassing that everyone knew, I would have preferred to keep it to my good friends at that point, not his family or his boss. So I understand how you must have felt with the rumors spreading around. I'm over it now obviously and don't mind sharing.

The last time I was in the ER? You know I don't even really remember. It has been a long time. My daughter has never been and my son has not been since he was her age I would say. I have not been to the ER since before my son was born for myself. Sorry to hear about your eye. I hope it gets better soon.

Last time I was in ER was in August this year with our nine year old twin son, we were walking through the country pasrk and he stood on a nail which was in a piece of wood and it went right into his foot. We went to ER to get him checked out and he was fine

With my 5 kids we are in the ER quite frequently. Few months ago my 6 year old had a huge bump on his head from falling. He turned out fine as well.

Ouch! It's actually surprising that we don't get more corneal abrasions and bacterial infections, all things considered. I'm glad to hear that your infection was so easy to treat! The last time that I was in the ER was last March, when I took my daughter in because her foot was swollen and very painful. She'd had a corn on the bottom of the foot and tried to remove it, and it had got infected. She ended up spending two days in the hospital on IV antibiotics because the infection had actually spread to the bone in her foot. Before that, I was there with my roommate who'd suffered a stroke earlier that afternoon. With five active kids (all of them nearly grown now) I've spent a lot of time in the ER!

I have never been in the ER and I have no desire to see myself there. Cheers!!
