http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27968305/ apparently its unknown to have such a great old find but the Black Sea, whose oxygen-depleted deep water preserves wrecks without the worm damage and deterioration that normally affects wooden vessels.

What a great find and it looks great for 300 years old. I wonder why more ppl haven't explored the bottom of the Black Sea? Who knows what other artifacts might be down there. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

who knows.. i dont know anything about the black sea but maybe they have searched only parts of it.. some stupid people will search a little section then like search another little section 10 years later and everything has moved around to where they are missing things

I just figured with all the deep sea divers in the world they'd have explored it by now. It seems strange to find a spot still unexplored in this day and age. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

The article only indicated that they found the vessel. But nothing was said about what they learned from the discovery. Or is there any indication on where the vessel come from. Or is there anything reported about the vessel that makes this a significant find other than the black see preserving it. I sure hope they an find more than just this dug out canoe is from a civilizatin from a few hundred years ago.

Talk about a blast from the past! Seriously that is just amazing to say the least. Just when people think they know it all something like this is uncovered. Such finds help us to have a better understanding how those before us lived. The boat's shape is distorted a bit but other than that it looks just fine. We clearly don't know everything about that time period but things like this takes us a step or two closer to learning more. I have always been fascinated by such things... Thank you for sharing =)

that is good news.maybe oak has better shelf-life,that is why it was so well preserved.
