Thank you letters

Do you write thank you letters for your gifts? Do your children write thank you letters? Well of course we do.... We get quite a lot of gifts in our house so it depends who they are from. If its very close family then the children write (well copy waht I write for them as they hate writing thank you letters) short thank you letters from themselfs. Other gifts that come then I normally write the letter but I get everybody to sign there name and do some kisses/smiley face etc. If not they would be there all day. Sometimes I get hubby to make thank you cards of the pc so the children's photo is on the front of the thank you card. Its a chore but its one that just has to be done and it is impolite not to send a thank you letter. We do also say thank you on the phone and in person but we don't always get to see everyone over christmas so letters have to be written. What do you my fellow mylotters do?

Thank you letters for gifts are a rare thing around here on the holidays. Most of the time the kids or I get gifts from people in person, so they are thanked for it immediately after it is opened.

I really prefer saying "thank you" personally, to people who has given me gifts for a certain occasion. Be it Christmas or birthdays. I think it would be much appreciated if thank you is said face=to-face and not through writing. This way it is more felt that thanking just came from the heart and not from the pen. Though sometimes, depending on the circumstances, thanking through writing is more practical to do if the person we are thanking is already on a far away place. I could do it through texting or email through the internet.

Hi ya Anne18 It is my intention every Christmas to get the kids to write thank you letters to everybody but as yet it hasn't happened. I think I might do this year what I did for my son's last birthday and that was to literally write thank you notes in a advance just saying 'Dear such n such, Thank you for my gift, love from whatshisname' and I then put them in the goody bags, job done!!! I am sure if you do one each day with them every day until Christmas they will have them all done and people will be impressed that you have got them off so quickly after recieving their gifts. If you are not sure who the gifts are going to from them just leave it blank for now!

I have to admit that I'm kind of rude when it comes to thank you's. I never write thank you notes. I will send thank you emails but not notes. I just can't make myself do it.I'm sorry!!!!

I receive many gifts from abroad as I have many friends from other countries and I write thank you letters to each person. I get really happy when I receive gifts from the other end of the world and it is very important to me to thank my friends, I think that is the least I can do when someone has spent time on buying and sending a parcel to me When I receive gifts from my family or from friends in my own country I also thank them. Sometimes I write and sometimes I choose to call or thank them in person.

hehe.. this is new to me. i don't usually write letters. i love talking personally to the person and then express my thanksgiving to him or her. i really don't have time to write at times like this. but as i cleaned my room, i saw those letters and then i have this feeling to try to write also. and i guess it would be effective and much valuable when i do so.. thanks for the clarification and giving the importance of writing a letter..

For most people i write thank you notes. I don't really like to write them, but I thin it makes people feel good if its unexpected, and some people will get mad if they do expect one and you never send it. So I write them :)

Well that is a polite and good thing to do, I admit I never thought about sending out Thank You letters, we've never done it before. Maybe this year we may start doing that, it is thoughtful..Have a good day

hello there! Hmm... well, I do not write a Thank You letter via snail mail or card but instead, either I call and thank them personally or simply send them a text message. If they are far away, i send them email to send my thanks and regards to their family... That is how I thank them for remembering me. And come december or any occassion, i buy small gifts for them when I have budget. Thanks and Cheers! Happy Mylotting!

Hi Ann 18, I too was raised to write thank you letters. We had to write them the day after Christmas and then they were posted the following day. I always keep a stock of cards handy and I try to purchase gopod qaulity paper too for my letters. I do not just write thank you letters for gifts received but also to the hostess if I was invited out to dinne. I write it as soon as I reach home and then post the following day. I know that this is appreciated. I insisted that my children do the same. My children know better than to not take their hostess a gift but I suspect that only my daughter now writes a thank you note. It is just good manners to show appreciation for the gifts received. It os wondrful that your husband is involved. I do not think that my sons send leters - they probably leave it for their wives to do! Blessings

I write thank you notes and now that my children are older they do as well. I have a four year old that can't write yet but he'll draw a picture to say thank you.

I agree that it's always polite to send thank you letters and so on, but I can't remember the last time I send anyone a thank you letter. I usually just thank the person face to face or on the phone, and on some occasions I sent a thank you post card through email to several online friends. The bottom line is I always thank people for any gift that I receive, sometimes I will thank them by sending them a gift also.

I think Thank you notes are very nice, I write them and I love to receive them. If I don't I never know if the person really got the gift or liked it. I also save the ones the children write to give to them at a later date. That can be really fun if you plan it well.

It is a good thing to write thank yo notes to people who give yo gifts or help you out when in need. I find that if i postpone writing a note, it can never be done and then i feel bad later. i try as far as possible to send thank you notes immediately. The person you thank feels really nice about it and becoema a friend in teh true sense.
