In UK we had the Queens Speech today and the government announced very few policies - obviously planning for a general election early next year whilst the opinion polls look better.

The most important news article that has been published since the last week is of the blast that has taken place in the city of Mumbai which is the financial capital of India, my country. It is quite a sad incident as the intelligence agencies of India have failed to provide security and moreover we have lost some great officers and commandos in the fight against terrorism.

If you are not aware....Canada's recently elected government is about to be toppled! And depending on our Lt. Governor, we will either ha ve a Coalition gov't by the 3 parties we didn't vote in! Or another election..within weeks after our last. We are making history! Not good..history...as far as I am concerned!

Canada for 141 years has been a democracy! We elect our Prime Minister! On Oct. 14th, 2008, Stephen Harper was elected Prime Minister, by the majority of votes, but not enough votes for a Majority government! Therefore, all bills and issues must be presented in parliament, and debated! Approved or disapproved by the minority parties! We have many Political Parties in Canada, but the most significant are; Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Bloc Quebecois & Green! The Bloc Quebecois for many years, have attempted to seperate Canada, by attempting to seperate from Canada, but still wanting all of the Canadian Government hand-outs! A week Friday, just 55 days after our election...the Liberal, NDP & Bloc signed an agreement to work as a Coalition (now banded together they have the majority of seats) and bring down the Conservative government! These are 3 parties, that all thru the Election Campaign, were mud slinging, trash talking each other! No party in the past has aligned with Bloc Quebecois, because most Canadians want Quebec to stay in the Dominion! To put the political situation in perspective....with these 3 parties, it is like taking 3 cats, tying them together by the tail! And letting them go at it! As seperate parties, they lost the election, but signing a coalition to go to bed together, we will possibly be governed by these 3 parties, that we didn't ELECT! This morning at 9:30, the Prime Minister is meeting with the Lt. Governor of Canada to ask for a prorogue (a hiatus in the parliamentary system) to try & let this toxic situation cool down. The Coalition is also meeting with the Lt. Gov. to ask that she endorse their coalition! We did not vote in the Coalition....and if they are approved, I think you will see serious unrest in Canada....the likes you have never seen before. There is huge On-Line petitions being circulated, as I write, to ask the Lt. Gov. to call a re-election, so we can speak as a democracy, again....rather than having a coalition shoved down our throats that smacks of dictatorship! This is a very scary time in Canada, as with the current economic situation all over the world, we are being eyed as a very unstable country! This political unrest will spiral us into an even further recession than anywhere else in the world, cause Canada was always viewed as a staid & stoic country! Thanks for asking, and allowing me to vent my fears! Have a super day!

Hi there, i rated you in this discussion, it really helped me. It's really sad what's happening in Canada, a country that i respect a lot. Now I wonder, you people, can't go out in the street and start something like protest or other things? You know, in Romania, they made the Revolution in 1989 to take down the communists. So, if you are to be rule by some parties that you don't what at the peak of your contry, then join all togheter and do something! This is a time when people should do more than sit in a chair and prey or other things. We must act,but we must carefully analyzen everything before doing something courageously, but ineficient. my best regards and hopes for well in your contry!

Hi there, thanks for asking (:D). Well, I live in Romania, but was born in Moldavia. Now i study here. What can I say, things are on a normal state. There has been political election and governments have changed, but things are the same. I don't know if you noticed, but Eastern Europe is considered a subdeveloped part of the world, and this isn't true...We are among the most intelligent people, but the idea is that the rulers of the world have set things up so that everybody should know their places. We can't upgade as a whole, as a country, so we evolve on personal fields, some of my friends, even, are now learning in big universities...Excuse me for extending so much. Romania is not affected by the global crisis and has refused the help from world bank. i think this is a very smart move. I hope this helped! Have a nice day!
