Yep, the World Wildlife Foundation sued World Wrestling Federation and took them to court. Wildlife Foundation won and they forced WWF to change it's name. That's why they changed it to the WWE. I definately prefered the WWF era, especially the attitude era. I don't think any other era will top that with wrestlers like Stone Cold, The Rock, Vince, Triple H, Undertaker, etc. Great times!

As I recall, they changed it because the World Wildlife Federation told them to. They already had been using WWF for a long time and wrestling suddenly got too popular and they were infringing on their logo name or some such. Either name, it's all wrestling to me

OOOOH. Well, yeah. Now that you've said it, that makes sense. I remember commenting on the two before when seeing one of those wildlife commercials. Thanks, you've put my mind at ease lol

As many mentioned, it was the World Wildlife Federation who took the WWE to court over the name. I'm not exactly sure as to why, since the WWE was the first to have the name registered and that they've been using it well before the World Wildlife Federation came along. There was a time that when the case was in court, and the WWE was still using the WWF logo and copyrights, they would flash a logo of the World Wildlife Federation at the end of their broadcasts [or at least they did here in my country]. After the panda huggers, World Wildlife Federation won the court case and forced the Fed to change to WWE, all references of the WWF, even from the past had to be bleeped out or blurred out. I have WWE 24/7 and I could tell you, it's pretty annoying. Logos from live shows are blurred out, interviews in the ring and out are bleeped out every mention of WWF. That was part of the conditions set by the court after the WWE lost that case to the World Wildlife Federation.
