What to get for that special someone on your list this year? Looking for that special gift that says, "I love you", or "thank you for being a friend"? Do you have that hard to please person to shop for? How about an abortion? Or birth controll? Or a PAP smear? Yes, nothing says I love you like the gift of an abortion, birth controll or pap smear. Let that special person know this year they mean more to you than anyone by putting a family planning gift certificate in their stocking this year. The choice for discerning Santas everywhere this year. http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/lifestyle/health/chi-talk-planneddec03,0,3497971.story

Not that a $25 dollar gift certificate would pay for any of that. It's an interesting concept, but the people who dreamed it up must not have thought of the creepiness factor. You don't buy people medical services for the holidays - at least, not any non-life saving ones. I'd be a tad weirded out if I found one of those gift certificates in my stocking.

"I'd be a tad weirded out if I found one of those gift certificates in my stocking." ROFL! I wonder how you write the thank you card for something like that.

LOL, I wasn't expecting this topic to be about planned parenthood from the main page!! I was just thinking, wow, that's weird, why would xfahctor make a topic about holiday shopping in politics lol. If someone gave me a planned parenthood gift certificate I would be really weirded out. Thats just weird. But I do go to planned parenthood for BC and checkups, my healthcare plan doesn't cover anything except emergency surgeries, and even then it probably wouldn't cover that much, so yeah, PP is cool with me (I do pay them for everything but its not nearly as much as it would be at a regular gyno). Yes Planned Parenthood performs abortions but they also do a lot to prevent unwanted pregnancies and abortions. And alot to keep people healthy that would otherwise not be able to afford it. Anyway, a gift certificate to the gyno is weird. Why not just give cash?

It was just one of those bizzare things I found and seemed worth posting. It is controversial to say the least, I left my personal feelings about PP out of it though. I just thought the whole thing said some interesting things about American society.

i like the first part of the discussion. it talks about gift-giving this season of christmas. but the last part was a bit off for me. the gift mentioned may be outrageous and well-intentioned but it does not represent the season which is a birth of our Lord Jesus. why give a birth control when the world is celebrating the birth of our Lord?

OMG, I'm sorry but unless you have a family member that has six kids by seven different fathers, this kind of gift certificate is pretty tacky! You mentioned thank you cards...but I won't even go there...ok, I will. Dear Aunt Edith, Thanks for the gift certificate for Planned Parenthood. The exam was fun and the birth control pill container I selected matches the purse Aunt Jane gave me.
