That is truly awful I hope the authorities shut down that facility and keep it shut down. So what if the man cannot talk? He still deserves enough care that someone on that staff should have noticed mold

I was thinking that it would probably take quite some time for mold to start growing, so they must have not checked on him very often. Either that or they just did not care. It is kind of hard to miss mold growing on someones mouth!

makes you wonder if they NEVER bathed him or something.. i mean surely there was a schedule to bathe him and it wouldnt have been so far between that mold could have grown

Bathe him or at least spend some actual time with him. Guess they don't care as long as they are getting their money

This is terrible and disgusting. I can't believe a health facility would be that neglectful of a patient and just forget about him and not really care. People that go into nursing and what not are supposed to care about their patients. What happened to those caring people? It makes me not want to go to doctors or anything anymore because it seems like they just don't care and would rather just get paid.

i dunno.. scary to think that these people may have been good doctors and nurses at one time and look at them now.. makes me wonder what has been going on there

this is so bad.now what is going to happen is each one is going to put the blame on others.thus the blaming game continues and the patient will get more and more neglected.what a pathetic state!!!!!!

That is just terrible. To think the poor man was neglected for so long that there was MOLD growing on him. I do not trust nursing homes and just pray I never get stuck in one when I am old and gray.

About 21 years ago I worked at a nursing home and even though it was the worst one in the county we still brushed the patients teeth and bathed them once a week we turned them every two hours at night and even changed their diapers while they where sleeping. We had to turn them at night every two hours because of bed sores. This story of the old guy with mold growing on him is just sad the care takers should be slapped then jailed.

isnt it sad when the places that have bad reps work their butt off and then this happens to a place that isnt known for it?? of course they did bad on their exams so im sure they were on some ones crap list but apparently not enough to have gotten checked more!!

I haven't heard of a place where the elderly aren't treated like animals. What an injustice! Hopefully, more nursing homes, than not, are following their codes and keeping our elderly safe and happy to the best of their abilities for their final days of life. They should be comfortable.

Thats crazy. I guess his family just dumped him there. This is one reason my Dad visits my grandmother at least once a week and talks to her on the phone tiwce a day.

This is unbelievable. I don't understand how any one going near this man couldn't see the mold. The employees must have been ignoring him for a very long time. I would say the manager wasn't doing his/her job to have missed this problem. In my opinion this place needs to be shut down. But then the residents might end up in a worse place. I once worked in a nursing home and the owners were very involved with the care of the residents so this would not have happened there.

if i ran the place or worked at the place i would be paranoid about this type of thing happening since its sadly expected now

My goodness. What kind of home are they running. To let a man's wound get infected. And mold growing on his beard?!? Do they even wash the fella? Otherwise, how do you explain that they did not know where and what is growing on this fellow? I sure hope the authorities do something about this to curb this unprofessional behaviour! As it is, nursing home fees do not come cheap. To have the care takers skive on their job, it is despicable!

That is awful....but I have a better one yet.....have you heard about the scandal from my hometown? How some of the nurses aides were abusing the alzheimers patient by spitting in their mouths......making fun of them....and sexually abusing them while filming the abuse to put on utube? Well it's criminal....a total disrespect for human life.
