Hey, what are you teaching YOUR kids?

Exceptional Children Council - Here in the states, we need special advocates for our smart kids, and not all of them are identified and nurtured so their intelligence is wasted. This seems to be an American phenomenon.

Here in the states, we need special advocates for our smart kids, and not all of them are identified, so their intelligence is wasted. This seems to be an American phenomenon. It is my understanding that smart kids are considered "normal" in other countries, so I want to know, what are kindergardeners learning in other countries? Here in the US they do fingerpainting, writing their name, counting to 10 and things of that nature. Thanks and Happy MyLotting!

People are lazy and stupid the world over. That problem isn't localized to America :) All children are smart. It's just that the majority are mentally understimulated. Parents are busy, aren't well educated, don't try hard enough or just simply think there is more to childhood, and that is a fair point. I don't have children yet but I understand the importance of education at a young age, and so does my girlfriend. She's the arty one and I'm the scientific one so we should be able to cover a decent amount of ground when it comes to teaching any future kids :) I think the correct answer to "what *should* you teach your kids?" is "I teach them everything I know, and see what they enjoy the most"
