WEll i know that 64 bit operating system wont work on 32 bit pc(processor), but will a 64 bit Ubuntu linux live cd load completely on 32 bit machine. I inserted 64 bit edition ubuntu live cd and it loaded perfectly without any problem on my 32 bit computer. could it be possible??? Please share your thoughts... Thank you..

that simply means your system is i686 i.e. pentium 2 up. Your processor may have support for EM64 (i.e. Intel 64 architecture) support and so it can run 64 bit applications although the processor is of 32 bit.

its intel pentium 4 2.66GHz hey i think my cpu is 64 bit, i inserted the same 64bit Ubuntu in my bro's 1.8 ghz system and i got error message that its not 64 bit please insert i386 based distribution. and in linux when i typed command arch i got msg i686, but if it was 64bit i should have got msg a_64. i Am confused whether my system is 64 bit or 32bit ,as online i read that i386 and i686 are all x86 based system.
