I have a question about tipping for you...................

When you eat out do you tip the recommended amount or do you actually go by how you feel about the waitress or waiter. If they are good you tip them nicely? If they are barely functioning do you not tip? Or, do you just go ahead and tip the regualr % that is exceptable?

For minimal or acceptable service I will tip the customary amount. If there service exceeds expectations then I will add accordingly.

I tend to tip based on how good the service is. If the waitress doesn't pay attention to our table and doesn't check on us every once in awhile she's not really doing a good job so I may tip but I won't tip a lot. Now, if the service is rather bad and she only comes by once to see if we need anything then I'm not going to tip at all. That's rather bad service and reflects on how she really feels about working there. Otherwise I try to tip fairly if the service is nice.

Good for you! I so agree. I don't think we as customers should be make to feel obligated to tip. If the service is bad I do not think there is any reason for a tip to be given.

I give the amount and sometimes even more if I find it was exceptional service, I give a very low tip for shotty service but that is rare because I have not had much bad service when I have been out.

Hey celticeagle! Honestly, If it were up to me I would tip according to the service performed. But, it depends on who I am with. I have my best friend who was a waitress and she is definite about tipping 20%! Yeah! That's what I said too! But, I don't want to argue with her so that's what I do when I'm out with her. If I'm with anyone else, we usually leave 15% or 10% if the service is really not that great. If we are only having lunch then I don't feel the tip should be more than 10%. And, if it is a buffet, then don't even get me started! If the service is bad and the waiter/waitress has an attitude~well you can guess the rest! I don't like to be mean because I do know that is how they make their money. So I do try to be fair and tip accordingly.

I waited tables for five years so my view on tipping is very humble. I don't worry about an percentage...I hate it when people pull out their calculators to figure out how much 15% is. I pretty much always tip good...even if the service is bad. You never know what's going on behind the scenes. I've had times where I am slammed busy or I'm going through something else and it has caused me to be a little slack on some tables. It's just the way it is...stuff happens and most people don't understand that. Further, if you tip well to somebody who's just a poor waiter (and knows it), it can change their day and possibly how they continue to work. They're so used to getting nothing at all or, at most, two or three dollars. Getting a nice tip can encourage them to work harder.

I disagree with you. If they are having a bad day it should never reflect on their job. That is called professionalism. And, if they are doing a bad job and they know then they should get another job. Any job is just that- a job and it should be done to the best of a person's ability. Thanks for your input.

I wish I had money so I can go out and tip someone. I hardly go out and this has kept me from tipping properly. I should start making some money soon. Cheers!!

i tip waiter the balance or the change. i take the balance only when it is something like 100 rupee or something like that. and yes! if the waiter was very good with us then i will give away maximum of 100 to waiter . i will not give away more than that to no waiter as it is good enough .
