We find teaching styles are changing. Availability of technology is making CAI(Computer Aided Instruction) possible. In such a scenario what do you think are the qualities of good teacher/ IOW what will justify his existence as a social entity? I will put in my views as we go along.

Some of the qualities I find great for a teacher is patiance and understanding..as we all don't learn the same. Creativity because we learn more from it and it helps in finding that niche for those having problems. Dedication because teaching is by no means an easy job and most teachers are not paid their due and knowledge because what they teach is the future.

Creativity being nurtured or left alone with in the student is important but I was speaking of creativity within the teacher as being a good trait to have as a teacher. I do feel for the teachers..they have no easy task.

Yeah, creativity in a teacher-woe that is a great idea. That is how perhaps he/she could inspire the student tobe more creative. Perhaps this is one very good way to "teach" creaticity!

Patience-yes. More of it is needed these days in teachers. The current generation of students are "less" oriented to formal study, most want to explore avenues to make money and what not. When we were students there were generally two classes, one who would love to learn for learning's sake. Of course these were a few in number. Then there were the majority who would measure their performance by marks and therefore formulate learning strategies very much tuned to the examinations. You have talked of 'creativity' being taught. Do you find it is possible to really 'teach' creativity? Yeah, you could spot it as a teacher and nurture it. If a person is creative it is a great service if a teacher can even leave it undisturbed, if he/she cannot nurture it.Even if a teacher doesn't stifle it one should find a lot helped. On the subject of a teacher not being paid I am with you. This is one of the saddest things. A teacher is in reality shaping the destiny of a country.. perhaps as you have rightly observed in the remote future. My sympathies are with the teaching community.

One can take horse to water but cannot make it drink. An ideal teacher should be able to make it drink!I mean that an ideal teacher should motivate students to aquire knowledge and apply it in their lives.Gone are the days when a teacher taught,Now its the age when a competent teacher motivates.

That is right, though what you say seems like asking for the impossible- I mean- making the horse drink part. A really great teacher will be able to drag in the most unwilling to learn. Thanks for the response.

When we strive and work hard hard to become a good teacher and to create a good class, we need to have these qualities, the knowledge of the subject matter we are teaching, the skills to convey that knowledge, the ability to make our teaching more interesting and relevant and our deep seated respect for our students. Thanks God Bless
