Back Home Again.... FINALLY!!

Hubby and I got back last night around 11pm and we're dogged butt tired!! My hands are so dry from all the cleaning. My nephew really did a job on my parent’s house. It was an absolute pig sty! Hell, a pig is cleaner than that!! The stench was incredible!! Cat pee smell was everywhere!! UGH!! My nephew and his roommate couldn't have known what cleaning is or how to clean!! It took me four and a half hours to clean the half bath!! Four and a half hours!! There's just a sink and a toilet, that's it!! It was just that AWFUL!! Words cannot describe the filth. I found a dead mouse by the toilet!! UGH!! I told mom that there's no way in hell that I'm sleeping in that house until it's cleaned up because it's so gross!! I was going to sleep either in my car or use my credit card and get a room in town but thankfully, hubby shampooed the carpet after I vacuumed. We have an electrolux vacuum, one of the best in the world and we went through 5 vacuum bags!! Now do you have an idea how dirty it was?! GEE MEE MOSES!!!! There were about 25 to 30 trash bags outside by the time we got there!! I'm talking about lawn sized bags!! It was incredible!! Unbelievable!! Shampooing the carpet brought out even more cat hair and debris so we had to vacuum again and again to get it all. 5 vacuum cleaner bags mind you!! A 1400 square foot house, small, and it took 5 vacuum bags!! The first two nights we were up till 3am cleaning, the third and fourth nights we were up till 1 and the last night we collapsed early at 11:30. We just couldn't keep going like we were because we were working from the time we got up until we went to bed and wore ourselves out. Hubby did his best on the main bathroom and he used all kinds of cleaners to get the tub clean and couldn't. Can you guess what it took? SANDPAPER!! It took sandpaper to get the grim out of the tub!!!! It took hubby an hour to sandpaper the tub clean and STILL there were stains that wouldn't come out!! We had cleaned the whole house from top to bottom and then painted the whole house. A friend of mine came and helped for one day, other than that, hubby and I did it ourselves. We cleaned the ceiling fans, windows - inside and out, the front and back screen doors, all of the cabinets - inside and out, vacuumed, shampooed, scrubbed the floors, painted the whole place, and replaced two toilet seats, light fixtures in the master bedroom fan, kitchen sink faucet, changed the locks and did some repairs too. We couldn't do all the repairs because we didn't have all our tools but we did what we could. My oldest brother will do the others once he's well again. He had surgery for skin cancer on his face and neck and has more to go later on. The realtor came by to take new pictures and was amazed at all the work we had done. She thought mom and dad would have to replace two carpets but we were able to save all of them!! Yippee!! So now EVERYTHING in that house is CLEAN!! The realtor thinks it'll sell now, much quicker than it would've.... if ever, the way my nephew had it. It took us from Wednesday afternoon to yesterday afternoon to get it all done but we did it!! Then on the way home we had to stop by my parents place to drop off some things and got some bad news. Dad had gone to the VA hospital for his appointment and had some blood work done. Cancer is showing up once again. We don't know yet where it is but the doctor wants to find out really soon. Talking about a blow. That really blew me away and popped a dozen of my balloons. I've said for a while now that I don't think I have my parents for much longer and I fear that I may be right. What a bittersweet moment coming home, huh? To turn this into a discussion, did you guys miss me?

Yes you were missed very much. I am so very sorry about cancer showing up in your dad. I hope its easily treatable. Good going to you and hubby, getting the house cleaned up. Thats unreal (I do believe you) about how gross and dirty the house was. How can someone live like that. You and hubby deserve a break. You got a good hubby cats, he sounds like a terrific guy. Welcome back, I am so happy that the big "chore" is done. I am hoping the house sells quickly and for a decent price. Take care, now hopefully you can get some R&R.

Hi Polly! I've missed you too!! I had wondered how you and everyone else was fairing while hubby and I were up there working our @sses off! lol I have pictures but they don't do justice of the dirt but it does show a lot but not nearly as much as it was. Seeing it in person really tells all. How in the world can anybody survive in such a pig sty? I had a horrible sinus headache and my sinus' were so stomped up the very next day and that was AFTER we had vacuumed and shampooed the carpets! Now that tells you something doesn't it? The realtor was right happy and thinks it'll sell now and we sure hope and pray so! That'll be one huge load off all our shoulders, no doubt. I'll keep you updated on dad. What a balloon popper, huh? Such a bittersweet moment to finally be finished with that damned house and being so close to home only to get news like that. It really did me in and I've done nothing but cry all day long. I'm so ready for next year in hopes it'll be better. It HAS to be damn it!! It has to be!!

Of course I missed you!. You guys are awesome...I could not put in the constant hours you both do. I had a feeling your nephew was going to leave the house putrid. Actually, I'm surprised he is out of the place...he has gone - hasn't he??? What happened about all his cats? Was the cat smell eradicated from the house? That's bad news about your Dad I hope you all get some goodness into your lives soon...you are all due...there's only so much a body can take. Take care sweet pea.

LOL Thanks MsTickle! I missed you guys too!! Every day I got up, I thought of you all and wondered how everyone was faring. Yeah, my nephew really did a job on that house. I couldn't believe it. I expected it to be dirty and in need of paint but good grief!! I told my mom that I was NOT going to stay in that house overnight unless we got the floors cleaned up which we did. Got the one dried so we could blow up the mattresses to sleep on thanks to the ceiling fans. Gosh, that place was horrible!! We got all the cat pee smell out the best we could. The cats are fine in good homes. As for dad, he had his body scan yesterday so hopefully soon we'll find out where the cancer is and hopefully get rid of it. I'll keep you posted!! Hugs!!

all THAT for a 1400square foot house?! omg i cant even imagine how truly atrocious it must have been when you first got there! how long was your nephew living there for it to get so bad? i dont think ive ever even heard of anybody having to take sandpaper to the tub! thats bad..real bad. in sadder comment...i am sorry to hear about your father showing cancer symptoms again. have they caught the signs early enough to have a positive outlook in beating it to remission?

Yup, all that and then some. Even after vacuuming and shampooing all the carpets, the next morning I had an awful sinus headache and my sinus' were stomped up! But thankfully with fresh air flowing through and medication, I was able to clear that up and keep going and finished everything in 5 days. We were up at all hours of the night and day trying to get out of there. Dad sees his doctor tomorrow so hopefully he'll know more on the cancer scare soon. We don't know anything else on it till then.

Hey catsanddogs! Welcome Back! Yup! I missed you! And I am so glad that you finally got everything done! It must be such a relief to have finally gotten all that work over with. And it did sound like quite alot of work. And considering all that stuff that you and hubby did it really didn't take you that long! I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope that they can find wherever the cancer is and be able to take care of it right away. I will be praying for him. I really am glad that you are back and that you were able to get all that work done so now you can breath again. And hopefully now the house will sell soon! I will be keeping my fingers crossed!
