LOL has many meanings. It means Laugh Out Loud, Lots of Luck or Lots of Love. The most common meaning is Laugh Out Loud. It didn't really originate from a part of the world, it originated from the Interent. However If I did have to choose a country/continent I would say the United States or Canada because it's in English and the larger percenatge of the population in those countries speaks english.

i think it means laughing out loud, even though the correct spelling is laughing aloud. so, it should have been "la" instead. i have a long list of these internet acronyms on my myspace blog. go to myspace.com/artdirector and check under my blogs. i copied a long list of many of them and what they stand for from other people.

LOL means "Laugh Out Loud" same as the emoticon of rolling in laughter. I always used LOL in chat & text messages to my friends and when I'm answering discussions here especially when I am emphasizing too much laughter, you know the kind of laugh where you could be rolling to the ground in laughter. When I said something silly or hilarious that's when I used these 3 letters. I don't know exactly where this term came from, I only picked this term through my friends who are fond of using LOL..hehehhe

LOL is an acronym for "Laughing Out Loud" It would be hard to track in which part of the world this originated from. It originated in the chat rooms as people began to use shortcut methods to make their typing speed faster, or rather, type less. For other such acronyms used in chat rooms, IMs, etc, you can look them up at www.urbandictionary.com
