Only one discussion on Mylot per day!!

India
December 11, 2008 11:39am CST
I tried an experiment last week. I wanted to know what would happen if I started around 10-20 discussions per day. Well, nothing happened...I got responses to most of them except one, I think. However, it is no fun! I hardly get the time to read all the responses, and I am unable to comment on each response. Discussions are fun only if you are able to comment, and I just can't handle too many discussions. What about you? Cheers and happy mylotting

Hi there Positive Minded. I agree that few discussions are preferably if you want to keep track of them. I think the largest number of discussion i ever started was 4 or 5 in a day, and that was in my first days as a mylot member. Nowadays if i start a discussion, i will start one or maximum 2 each day, with a difference of time between them of at least several hours.

I think one or two a day is an ideal number. One can easily keep track of them then. Thanks for the response. :)

Whew, I am glad to hear you are over that!!! It was no fun getting slammed with all those 'cheap imitations' in my inbox either! I am very glad to have the 'real' positive back!

PS: Do not take me wrong here though... there was nothing wrong with the subject matter of those discussions, and they were all well written, I just knew they were for the numbers.

Hehehe, 'Kitties in Boots' was the name of that photo that I was using as my avatar- in remembrance of the 2 little darlings that I thought I lost to coyotes, but they are both back now so I no longer need to remember them... I see them everyday!

The most discussions I have ever started in one day is 4; and even with these few, I struggled to give each of them the attention they deserved. I much prefer to start one discussion every couple of days or so and make every effort to interact and reply with each and every reponse rather than play the numbers game. I agree with you 100% that discussions are much more fun if we are able to comment and this is really what this site is all about in my opinion. People that post discussion after discussion and never reply to anyone do not get my attention for long!

I agree. I am very slow typing and thinking so it takes me ages to type responses so I keep it as little as possible. I like to respond to everyone but that can take up to a week or more as I cannot get round to everyone at once. Besides I also want time to try and respond to yours and all the other friends I have on here.

I agree 10 to 20 is too many. I can handle maybe 5 - 6 in a day if I don't get too many gazillion responses. But any more than that is just too much to handle and then I don't have time to respond to anybody else's discussions. Slow day today though? Either that or mine are more boring than I thought they were. lol

I am the same way. Usually 5 a day when I doi start discussions. I try to respond to various discussions as well as add comments to the responders in mine. Some days I spend all day adding comments and get nothing else done here. It does seem a tad slower than usual for a Thursday here doesn't it? Oh well. Off to emails etc I reckon. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

20 is too too many!! LOL! I have experienced it. I guess my inbox almost exploded. I guess one a day is fine for me. :) Thanks a lot for the response.

Here, I only comment. At my other haunt - where I have over 1000 friends - I post between one and four articles per day. Sometimes I get as many as 100 responses. I still keep up.

I aim to respond to 20 discussions I hadn't previously responded to, add secondary responses to discussions I am interested and involved in, and start maybe 1 or 2 new discussions per day. That usually gives me enough to do. Sometimes the 20 new responses is a bit of a challenge, the majority of the discussions posted bore me silly, but I usually manage. Lash

I can not keep up with a ton of discussions I have started either. I do a few here and there and pretty much keep up with my unresolved topics as well. I answer more discussions than I start. The less time I have the less I start discussions. As I don't want my friends to feel I only come here to start discussions. Right now I am behind in answering the alerts telling me my friends have started a new discussion. I am way behind in them.

Yup, that's another reason why I have decided to start only one discussion at a time. I don't want my friends to feel neglected. Thanks for the response

I start discussions about 3 to 5 days a week. I usually do about 5 or so as well each time. I get a lot of responses and try to answer most. But that is almost impossible for me sometimes. I add comments to a lot of them but not all. Just how I've done this since day one here. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi positiveminded, that is a great idea..I don't post a lot of topic but still this time, I didn't respond to some of the responses in my post...I've been away for the past 2 months and still trying to clean my notifications.... I have tried also experimenting when I posted a topic and I didn't respond to any of the responses, I know it's rude in some way but I will be trying to check it out soon!

Hi checapricorn, nice to see you back! Not all responses demand a comment; for example, one-liners! But yup, it does feel rude not to respond sometimes. Cheers and thanks for the response

I have tried starting more than one in a day and if they take off then I find it impossible to give them the attention I want to. I only start another one if the first one does not do well. If it does then I might only start one ever 2 or 3 days as I go back the discussion that is still alive and reply to people. I try and reply to a certain number of responses to my discussions every day as well as answer other discussions. It takes me ages to type responses so I do not achieve many and I keep going back every day so it might take me a week to get round to the people. So I cannot have too many discussions going or I would not get to respond to any of them.

Hi positiveminded, I could amgine that, as I don't make many discussion and when I do I don't really get that much response, so with your 10-20 well it can taker a while to comment on them so just do a few a day and then you might be able to cope. Tamara

Hehehe... it is really difficult to cope with zillion responses to around 20 discussions. :)

I try to do three, I don't know why I chose a goal of three but that's what I did. I don't always get to comment on each response, I fact I think I was told by someone that you are suppose to do that unless they ask a question.

Actually, not all responses demand an answer...but I would love to respond to all of them, provided the response comes naturally. It makes no sense simply writing "thanks for the response" for everybody. ;) Cheers!

yes..it happened to me also once. I thought of quitting but I guess I am already an addict to this MYLOT. What I do now, I post only 2 to 3 selected and interesting topic( that I think it would be) a night before going to bed. Response some of interesting topics that you think you have a best response. That's it. And take it easy..never put in our minds that we could have a millions of dollars here by answering all those topics and discussions. You will die in front of your PC if you will do that....Just take it easy..

If I comment to each response, that would waste much of my precious time. So, I prefer to open many discussions perday.

Yes, it is good that if we start a discussion and our fellow mylotters will give a comment or response we can also send a reply. In that way our discussion will become active and alive especially if it really needs a response. In my case, I don't make any discussions now because I'm tired of making one. What I do is I just read post from others and make a comment out of it.

I couldn't agree with you more positiveminded1977. I don't know how anyone could properly attend to all the posts if they are producing that many posts on a day to day basis. I guess that it is an earning strategy to manufacture posts like you are using an assembly line, but I don't know how long you could keep that up without your myLot experience becoming boring or tiring. You just can't make enough money on myLot to warrant such an approach imho. I find that I respond to other members' discussions more than I do starting my own discussions and I try to start a discussion only when I have a topic that I am really interested in conversing with others about. Cheers.

I do totally agree that you should only start a number amount of discussions only if you plan on responding to those who have responded to your discussion. Now if you aren't good at responding to a discussion that you have started or you just don't have the time to, then there shouldn't be that many discussions started. I think that 10-20 discussions being started is way too many though, unless like I said you plan on responding to the people that responded to your discussion in all 10 or 20 of those discussion. I think 4-5 is about good for anyone, but me personally I would have to stay to my 2-3 discussions being started.

Yah, i feel the same way too, as much as i would like to open a discussion but when a lot of members replied into it, i cant hardly catch up, that is why i just comment on others discussion. It is more fun really when you are able to reply to those who responded on your post.

Yes, it's not funny if there is no reponse and comment. Discussion need more people participant in and sharing their different opinions. I think it is not important about how many discussions you start but the active participant of diccussion is the most important thing. I will not start a new disccusion if my last disccussion has not attracted more people.
