Beware of this computer problem

Everyone needs to be careful about this problem.. There is no actual solution for it and it can be the most annoying one of all your problems.. You think everything is working fine.. till all of a sudden your webpage fails to open.. you try refreshing the page but your hit with the same message again.. You check your internet connection and all seems fine.. your downloads are on.. messenger is working.. but just the web page fails to open somehow.. Reconnecting does not help one bit.. The only immediate solution you have to the problem is to restart your computer.. Once restarted.. it feels like the problem never existed.. Its like my computer has got the short term memory loss problem.. you know.. my computer had a internet surfing time of only 15 minutes till it would forget what it would have to do.. like the goldfish syndrome or something.. The final and actual solution to this is only a re-installation of Windows.. Are you a victim or do you have the solution?

HUH? I work with computers all the time. Only time things like this happen is if your modem locks up or you put the wrong proxy server into your internet options. Sometimes if you have automatically detect proxy settings your internet will not work. That should cause messenger to not work as well though :/ Restart is the magic fix for alot of computer problems. Where I'm at people run there computers for weeks and then ask why the mapped drive is no longer there. A simple reboot could fix that.

well, your 10 years of experience doesn't really counts. if your not familiar with networking or you don't experience networking you really won't have this problem. i agree with one of the comment. it's the DNS going bad, could be another program or one of your download is causing it. are you using torrents to download? you should check that one out. this happens to me and when i turn off the download it goes well again

Your answer is not right. When I faced this problem recently.. My internet explorer would cease working... not hang.. it just would not connect to any web page.. the messenger would sign out.. and all downloads would cancel.. BUT.. surprisingly my PS3 would remain connected to the same network and the download would be continuing.. After formating and re-installing windows.. the internet seems to be working absolutely fine under the exact same settings as used previously.. I don't have control over the modem.. and I don't use any proxy.. The modem is shared and no settings have been changed.. In some other cases.. the internet would stop working after a few hours.. in my case it was in 15 minutes.. Their messengers would remain connected.. but only browsers would not function.. It happens in old and new computers.. in old XP installs or fresh ones.. No signs.. no reasons..

Well in the 10 years I've been with them I personally have never seen this problem from win 95, 98, NT, 2000, xp old, xp new, vista. Internet explorer Locks up every now and then but what do you expect from microsoft. I was giving some causes of what may have caused it as I've had several times lost my connection due to the modem needing to be reset. It could have been spyware for all I know as if a fresh install fixes it, it got rid of the problem. Once you hit whatever site you got it from it will come back.

Here's a shot in the dark here, but it sounds like one of two things. 1) Chrome is a new program still in beta. It has bugs. Don't load a beta program on your main computer until you have fully tested it on another computer that you don't use as often. New software often causes problems like the ones you are describing. and 2) It also sounds like it could be an IP addressing problem. Next time this happens, unplug your PS3, stop downloading, reset your modem (yeah, the modem guy was RIGHT! Hard to believe, huh?) and restart your computer. With the PS3 still unplugged, test the computer to see how long it works. If the net goes down again for your main system, one by one, unplug everything, turn it off or whatever and keep reseetting the modem and restarting your computer until you get to the right device. Once you know what it is, you can fix the problem by giving that device a static IP address, thereby resolving all addressing conflicts. If you do not know how to do this, please get a computer technician out to your house to do it for you. Most computer techs DO know quite a bit about networks as well, it's their JOB to know. We have to know about networks and how to troubleshoot them in order to properly troubleshoot and diagnose many computer issues. And yes, I am well educated in this field, and do have experience. I have seen problems like this before, and usually it's either new software added, or it's an IP addressing problem, or it's a virus. Of course, you could always just look in your event logs, and those will tell you what the problem is.

I don't really think its got to do anything with Chrome.. Even though Chrome puts tonnes of files on the computer and runs lots of things in the background.. I don't blame it for the issue.. IE and Mozilla faced the same problem.. I already run my internet through static Ip.. Don't know what more could I do with it..

Yeah it could still be Chrome. As you said, it installs lots of files onto your computer, etc etc etc. Were you having this issue before you started using Chrome? how long after installing it did you start to have problems? Do all of your devices, wireless and hard wired, that connect to your Internet have static IP addresses? If not, and they have dynamic ones, then you need to check for an IP addressing conflict. Heck, double check all of the IP addresses anyway just to be sure. Also, try the whole resetting the modem thing. It's quite easy. Unplug the power cord, wait five minutes, (some say thirty seconds but I always go five minutes) then plug it in. I have to do this with mine at least once a week!

Lately I have been having the exact same problem and as you said, I too have had to re-install windows and even re-install firefox and IE over and over again. After I do that, it all works fine for a few weeks then it all starts happening all over again. Can't figure the darn thing out, A friend of mine says my computer is getting old but it is only 2 yrs. old! Hope you get it figured out as I am trying to do the same, good luck!

Well my harddrive has been partitioned in 2 drives.. with all my softwares being installed in the same drive as the windows one.. So a format just irritates me to the core.. And its not even the formatting that tries my patience.. the amount of time it takes to re-install windows is annoying to the core.. I am so surprised that there is no actual solution to this..

Same here, I just finished formatting again my computer. formatting is a tremendous worked for me as there are lots of software I need to reinstall again. I just hope there is an easy way to solve this problem and to avoid restarting every time it happened. Sometimes when this problem occurred, virus might be one of the caused. I have one incident before that after updating and scanning my computer. My anti virus software found and deleted the virus. After that my computer works well.

I have a solution that will work for a really long time. Get Linux like fedora or Ubuntu and well you won't have that problem. I switched to Ubuntu and well I have hardly any problems. You could also try getting away from IE.

for most people especially casual users Linux is hardly worth the trouble. Missing drivers, lack of software, lack of instructions to install available software. Seriously anyone who is wary of going too deep into a computer should stay as far away as possible from Linux. Yes it is fast, free and useful but you have to know your way around it. I dual boot between Ubuntu and Windows and while Ubuntu is perhaps the simplest Linux distro around it still takes some coaxing. To get it to recognize my onboard sound took me the better part of 2 days. Not something I enjoyed!

If you know your way around then nothing like it.. You can program lots of things for yourself and you have all that happening.. But I just use my computer for other things.. where I don't need any programming knowledge.. I mean.. It would help.. but I don't really care as of now.. For the computer.. Im a sucker for Microsoft.. But.. I guess I will have to talk a bit more about Linux cause thats the only thing that will get installed on my PS.. so.. its not like I have a choice there.. :(

this is probably a problem with your DNS server not responding. When it doesn't, the URLs you enter aren't resolved into IP addresses. This happens especially during high traffic periods. Nothing you can do except keep trying until it does respond. Or switch to OpenDNS http://www.opendns.com/

does this happen every time you connect? It could be that your ISP itself isn't very reliable. I had this problem with an old ISP where connections would go out every few hours or so. I changed my ISP and I haven't had a problem for over two years.

Why does this happen in the first place? It happens any time during the day.. 15 minutes from the time I have logged in to my internet connection.. Its not possible that there can't be anything done about this problem.. Im sure there might be a way to resolve this without restarting or re-installing..

My computer was shutting down on me. It went to where it was over heating. I change the memory and now it is running quiet o.k. Maybe it is your memory.

No not at all.. even though my motherboard has become weaker than what it was in its initial period.. the memory and motherboard don't seem to be the issue.. I still have the same memory and motherboard and after the fresh install the internet is working fine again..

Dude, i think your pc has been attacked by viruses and spywares. Some of the spywares do create such problems. I would suggest you that you get it cleaned by some effective antispyware software ASAP. And then try using the net. I hope that this solves your problem.
