i agree. how we spend our hard-earned money is just as important. for my personal spending i do set a budget or a ceiling. if ever i spend beyond that, it means i have to tighten my belt on other things. i'm the kind of person who's careful on the daily and regular expenditures for myself, but i go all out when shopping for gifts for my family and friends... especially for the kids (i have a dozen nephews and nieces as well as a few godchildren and several kids of my friends). since i came from a big family, i've been used to spending less for myself to be able to give more for my family. budgeting helps a lot that way. :) i do my own grocery for example, not only because i enjoy it but also because i can spend about 15-20% less on the same grocery items that my sister will also buy. sometimes, it's just a matter of checking quality and quantity, size vs amount vs need vs priority. and since i can cook, i know which items need to be prioritized and which can be substituted. those help in budgeting. :)
