To Be Rich

Let's say that you met someone who promised that they could make you a $ millionaire overnight. However, you would have to sell yourself to get it for 12 months as a slave in their house doing hard labour. There you would do whatever they wanted, without complaint or be turned out with nothing. Would you be a slave for $1,000,000 prize on release?

My life, and noones life for that matter, should EVER be for sale. I mean how low does one have to go? Now if it was a 1/2 mil for like a month, then no problem lol. My ex husband would love this question, as he always tried to control me. For me to be someones 'slave' for a year, it would cost em A LOT more than a mil, since Im putting up my life in that way, plus there would be stipulations with the agreement to where Id make sure nothing illegal was involved etc. The true richness is happiness, and not with money either, but it always helps lol.

A month or a year. You've accepted the principle! LOL.

No difference. Slavery is slavery. It's like being a little bit pregnant. You can't be. But I do agree. Happiness is more important.

Theres a big difference between a month and a year tho. I still would have to see the stipulations, even if for a day, cause if it includes anything illegal or deals with committing a crime, no thanks. Im not going to jail for anyone either.

Well a million is a lot of money, and a year is not that long of a time, but I figure that some people could make it seem like a lifetime. There is certain things that I refuse to do, no matter how much money is involved. So when you say slave if you mean waiting on someone hand and foot, or scrubbing their house down, mopping floors and cleaning dishes, I could do that, heck I have to do it every day for myself. But when you get to the kinky stuff I'm gone.

Well you said anything and there are some crazy people out there with money and sometimes when we agree to anything we never know what that person has on it's mind. At least I wasn't the only one.

When I started out this discussion I was simply thinking of hard graft. But so many allude to something kinky......... LOL.

No, I'd never want to be rich. Too much pressure, plus you gotta think how to secure your money so no one would steal it from you. Kind of not good. One year of my life is worth more than $1 mio!

Hmmmm, great question and very difficult to answer. I think I probably would do it, 1 year for a million? If it was just hard work in their house, I mean what could it be? As some others have said - I wouldn't kill anyone and it would depend on who said it but te thought of that much money and only one year to make it, it would solve alot of problems for me and it would be an experience. Plus I think that maids, servants etc get a really hard time and are paid a low wage so it would eb a character building experience too.

Hi p1ke, I have no desire to be a millionaire. I'd just like to be able to have enough to get by, and to live comfortably. I'd also like to be able to 'give back,' by helping others who need it. I wouldn't be able to do the hard labour anyway, as I'm 'partially' disabled. I say 'partially,' even though some would say disabled. It all depends on a person's perspective. Finally, I wouldn't trust anybody who made such an offer. I don't think 'I'd' ever really see the money. Take care.

I don't suppose that many of us would turn it down if offered Mom. But not with the strings attached maybe. I'm with you on this. Happiness far outweighs money any day.

I would never humiliate you, unless of course, that is what you wanted. And only in good taste. I don't have a million anyway. lol. But we could pretend, nothing wrong with that, eh? And I've done that, worked for half pay, for the experience. Sort of like an apprenticeship. But it felt like it was for free sometimes.

No, I would not be interested in this deal at all. Money is not that important to me. As long as I have a roof over my head, food on the table, and the ability to get medical care, I'm happy. To me, what's more important to me than money is relationships - with God and with friends and family. Being anyone's slave doesn't appeal to me at all.

Oh the ethical question....I would definitely consider it, but when it boils dow to it I do believe I would say no. Simply because if I allow someone to treat me as a slave, or invite anyone to mistreat me them I have now sold myself to anyone for a price and anyone and everyone who knew this knows that I am for sale as are my ethics and morals. I wouldn't do it for this simple fact also that not many people actually honor their words....so how do you know you did not just sell your soul to the devil?

well, religious or not it is a definitve way to find ot a person's character...their true character....but I do know I walk amongst others who would certainly sell their soul to the devil for a buck....but it's not for me. I would rather work myself into a grave than to ever allow someone control over my decisions and my life.... I think the ethical people knew what you were asking LOL

Hi p1key, No thank you, I wouln't be a slave for no amount of money, as it is I work to darn hard here in my home for nothing, being a slave to someone for that amount of money and to be made to do anything frightens me because they can make you do what they want. Not thank you. Hugs. Tamara

Well p1kef1sh the problem here is the prize is confirm or you have to complete with others. Then the issue would be within the 12 months would you be able to earn $1,000,000 or more on your own. if you have the answers then perhaps you would know the choices that you are likely to make. I would unless of course it involves anything illegal. Just a though.

I'd certainly consider trying it but alas...I'd probably fail. The part about "no complaint" might do me in. I'm sure that the person would do their best to p me off and there is a good possiblity that would happen. I don't know tho...I'd certainly give it a try. I worked for the boss from hll for 13 years and no one could understand how I tolerated her mental abuse. I did pretty well. Can't say that I never complained behind her back as I did. A couple of times, I sort of lost it to her face but for the most part I hung in there pretty tough. Ya...I'd give it a shot. I'm raising a child alone. It'd make her life & mine a lot easier if I didn't have to work so many weird hours to get by.

Pike...you are so sweet! I'll be your most dedicated worker! I do know the value of a dollar and also lack of it. As I type, our area has just been hit with a gigantic storm and many many people including one of my daughters and her family were hit hard. there is no power ...no heat...and temps are subzero. I just got of a 10 hour shift with no break...ok 4 mins...if one would call that a break. there are people here without water, heat or electric. everywhere in the region is sold out of water and the only gas available was our station and we were close to running out. it is absolutely devastating here. You can't even buy water at walmart right now. I was one of the lucky few not to lose power. Still, can't buy water and my tap water is nearly not drinkable. I am lucky in comparison. it is all about priorities. I am willing to bet that most of these people that are cold and aching for a shower really don't care about being rich. This morning my home was a confused crazy place with people all taking showers, cooking etc. needless to say...I brushed my teeth, washed the pits and ran. it isn't a pleasant situation here.

Not me.. I was hired once when I was a teenager to do housecleaning for a local "rich" woman and I did clean her house to make a bit of extra spending money for myself, this is while I was going to school also.. I did my job very well until the day that she informed me that she wanted her sheets ironed aafter I finished her laundry.. That remark made me see red for some reason.. I thought if you want your d*mn sheets ironed, then you iron them, I didn't say it, I just thought it.. I went on about my regular business and cleaned and washed and dried her clothing, even the sheets were washed and dried as usual, they were folded and put away without so much of a hint of ironing done to them.. Later she told my sister-in-law, she was the one who had helped me to get this part time work, That my ironing was supurb, her words, and that I was doing a very good job.. Even as a young girl, I could have looked at the sheets and seen that they were just folded very neatly instead of ironed.. So, my answer is no, not for a million dollars would I be a slave to anyone else.. I am more the type that would lend you a hand for free if you needed it..

Ummmmmm, a million bucks, or some kind of control over my life. I think I will keep the control, thank you. Keep the million. I MIGHT clean someone's house, or do their cooking and laundry, serve at parties, etc., but to give up control of the things I do have control over, I don't think so. *L* I am not a control freak, but I do want things done a certain way, and usually that is my way. Don't think I would make a very good slave to any one but myself.

Cripes, I know a whole bunch of people who'd do it for nothing, as long as regular punishment was offered as a bonus. I'd never last the distance, I'd end up snotting my "owner" in all likelihood. I wouldn't have lasted long on a sugar plantation. Lash
