Do you listen to music while studying or reading?

When I was in law school, I couldn't concentrate on studying when music was playing in the background. I couldn't get any of what I was reading in my head. What gets in my head, however, is the song that plays over and over again long after the music has actually stopped playing. I have a friend though who always puts on his headphones when reading. What about you, do you listen to music when reading or studying?

I preferred listening to music while I was practicing mathematics or accounting. I found I could concentrate much better when I was listening to music. It also helped relaxed and not go to sleep(I would feel sleepy the moment I took out a book to study). But that was only when I was doing maths or accounts. But the same could not be said if I doing was some theoritical subjects like economics, etc. Then my concentration would definitely be on the song played. The reason being that economics was not so favourite.

Definitely not rock!!!something soft and soothing that will help relax. I have the tendency to getting tensed worrying about my studies. rySoft music helps decrease my tension and helps me concentrate much better. But what works for me need not work for someone else.

It depends on my mood. Sometimes I'd rather study in the library so I could concentrate on what I am reading, or sometimes I want to listen to slow jazz or love songs just to keep me awake. I would also watch television sometimes while studying, just to keep me awake.

Right. Though I do tend to sleep when listening to mellow music when I'm studying. Sounds like a lullaby to me just before the sandman cometh!

I will listen to the background music we have playing for the day, sometimes though, I will put in some classical or something somewhat soothing yet ming stimulating to set a better atmosphere.

I read somewhere that certain, if not most types of classical music help in making you understand more on what you're reading.

Since I get easily distracted by any stimulus, I make it a point to limit stimulus that will get in the way of my studying or reading. When I cant seem to absorb anymore of my reading, music usually helps to clear my clouded mind.

I used to get distracted easily too. I used to prefer studying in a really quiet environment, preferably with nobody else around. It all changed when I started studying with my classmates who study at cafes. Now I can study in noisy places but I would still prefer studying in a really quiet place. Anyway, have a good one and thanks for the add!

yes! so that i will not get sleepy while studying at night. i also get scared being the only person awake at night so i use music to keep me company. i don't actually listen to the music, i don't hear it at all if im concentrating in studying. i don't even hear other people are actually talking to me when i am busy doing something, or im just a little deaf hehe

I used to do that, either a music played or watching tv while reviewing or even eating while reviewing. But, I found out that whenever am focused with two things like studying on one hand and listening to music on the other hand, for sure, I can't go far on my studies or studying would take a long hours. I could not digest what am reading or studying in just one reading. It will take 2 readings after i could finally understood the subject. When studying, reading or reviewing on something is a rush, let us say, I only have 2 hours to study on a certain subject, I will not listen to music. I would really see to it that the room is quiet for me to concentrate on it. Law school is tough. It has a different way of teching its students. Not the usual spoon-feeding way . The student in Law School has to be prepared whenever he / she enters the room. He/she has to have an advanced reading on the subject and few of the required jurisprudence on that day. Reading or studying law books require one to thoroughly read and understood it. Because of the long coverage of recitations on a particular day, you would have insufficient time to read the scope, hence, no time should be wasted. So, when am reviewing or studying, I would see to it that the room is quiet for me to fully digest and understand the coverage or subject without wasting time reading it twice or thrice.

Once upon a time i did like that but now i am not getting concentration in reading by listening music simultaneously, so i am not listening to music while i am studying. Now i am feeling that we should have a calm and neat atmoshphere to study and to get concentration on our studies. Then only the studied mater can me rememberable otherwise we can't remember the mater what we read on yesterady. That is why i changed my way and now i am enjoying by studying in a calm and a neat atmoshpphere where there is no distrubance and any problems.

while studying I too have the same problem because I too cannot concentrate when some good music is playing in the background but if the music is not of my choice then it doesn't really bother me. If I like the song that is playing I too tend to sing that song so I cannot study well.

I used to like listening to music while solving math problems. i can't read or memorize text when there's music in the background, but munching on light snacks helps a bit. When I comes to solving math problems though, I have no problem with the music. It keeps a part of my brain from getting bored, I think.

While studying or reading I would like silence, I don't like to hear music, or any one talking. Studying means learning and sticking in the brain and at that time I don't like any disturbance. It doesn't matter what.

i love music. whenever i feel lonely or sad i listening to music it cheers up my mood and its a refreshing tonic for me. I listen all types of music but sometimes it depends on my mood if i m sad i hear soft music and when i m happy i listen fast music with high volume. And i am not listening music while studying but when i am reading novels or anything i would like to hear it, coz it doubles my enjoyment

I tend to do better when I have some background noise. If the music is too loud, then I tend to sing to it and stray away from my books and get lost in the rhythm and lyrics. Generally, as long as I don't know the words to the song, or there aren't any words at all, then it benefits me to listen to music while I study. :)

I listen to music when reading, only when I take the city bus alone of course because now I have a newborn and I have to focus on her and I use the internet when she is sleeping. But getting back to the question at hand. Yes, I like to listen to music when reading a book when I'm alone on the city bus it helps me concentrate better on the book because it drowns out the noises on the bus.

I often listen to music when I am reading or studying. Music doesn't distract me, on the contrary music makes be happy and when I am happy it is easier for me to get my studying done. There is one exception, though. When I am writng a poem or something similar, music often distracts me especially if I understand the lyrics. If I am listening to music in a language that I don't understand, it is usually not a problem.

I listen to the TV while studying, it is good for me to have background noise, because sometimes complete silence makes the studying worse.

i can't concentrate when i'm listening to music while reading coz i tend to sing along or my mind just goes blank and i drift off to space. that's because for me, listening to music is a form of relaxation. when i'm off to bed, i put on my earphones and listen to my ipod. it's a ritual which totally relaxes me. so when i'm listening to music while reading, i get totally lost. but when i'm doing math, it's okay. lol.

i'm still at school. and all i can tell, is that i often lisen to music while studying, i mean by studying , working on mathematic exercices, phisycs , and all subjects which need me , to elaborate arithmetic methods and scheming works. but , i just can't hold listening to music while reading, i mean while reading , some lessons especially for the first time, it requires a lot of concentration, and clear mind reflecting. i can't listen to music while reading casual books or novels. because i'm a kind of person, who get really deep, in rythms and lyrics of the song i'm listening to!the only exception is when i'm working on my own studies subjects, it's like, music gave me the rythm to work, to reason and to elaborate. that's weird , but it just me and the music LOL.
