I live in Corpus Christi, Texas and there are parts of town here where I don't even feel comfortable in a car and being with other people too so forget about walking. Other places are ok but now days you just never know. I live on a short street, not many houses and it is ok to walk alone on even at night.

I live in Etobicoke which is now incorporated into Toronto. Most of my friends do not go out at night or take public transportation or walk alone at night. I am a very independent person and refuse to become a prisoner of fear. Maybe I will regret it someday but so far so good. I do ride the buses, streetcar and subway at night, mind you not at all hours of the night though. I am very careful when I get off the public transport, look behind me and if there is someone behind me I cross over to the other side or let them overtake me. I carry my keys in my hand so they protrude between my fingers and could be used to defend myself somewhat. I also carry a cell phone although I don't know if it would do much good if one were attacked. Toronto has a bad reputation for crime but it is present in certain areas. In any case I think we all should be so grateful if we can walk the streets in safety.

I am in Guelph Ontario Canada, and I lived for a while in Sedona Arizona USA. I was not scared to walk alone in either area, nor was I afraid to walk alone in downtown Toronto at night, when I stayed there for a while a few years ago. People who are going to attack seem to be able to sense fear, and I don't want to give them that satisfaction.

yes true, but the states also show that old people and feeble people or disabled people are in a high risk group even women are attacked more by muggers that men because all these categories are considered easy targets.

I live in a smaller area in the northwest corner of Arkansas. Two miles from where Wal-mart got it's start!!! I have never been afraid of walking alone but around here there has never been much to fear though we are growing at a record pace thanks to Wal-mart! We are still small enough to avoid a lot of big crimes. However when I tavel to bigger cities I am always careful about going anywhere myself but around home it doesn't bother me one bit.

Oh I love it up in your area. One year I went with my brother and sister in law to a huge craft show up there and had a blast. I also got to see the little Wal Mart museum in town but only from the outside, they were closed.

We have a lot of great craft shows here. It is a nice area to live in since there is everything I need close by but yet it is not super big. My brother lives in Fort Worth and there is no way I would go walking by myself very many places down there. He lives in a nice neighborhood but I still wouldn't walk far by myself.

Well, it's not that I'm afraid to walk alone, it's just that I really can't walk alone due to my condition. I'm a Filipina. Happy posting! Keep safe...

I use a lot of mobility aides. I use walker, crutches and wheel chair when we go to the mall. Do you use mobility aides too? Keep safe!

I live in Kentucky and yeah I would be afraid to walk at night. We have some very curvy roads and people at times don't drive in the lines alloted for them. And if they don't see you, well you can be hit. Plus I live 10 miles or so outside of town and houses are far enough away from the road that if someone tried kidnap(not of me but others) that they wouldn't have time to do anything about it. A girl across the road from our holler was checking her mail and a car stopped and grabbed her..lucky she screamed and her dad was outside and she fought she got loose. But it is still scary to happen that close to home.

Well, I don't live in the city anymore, just a nice quiet neighborhood. I love walking by myself or with my kids. I used to walk by myself to the stores when I lived at my first place. I actually enjoy the quiet and solitude of being by myself. Now I wouldn't have walked that area at night alone, to many cases of people being mugged and killed. Now here, its ok to walk alone at night, just be careful of drivers going down the road. It's hard to see a walker, even with street lights.

yes it is very hard for people to see other people in the dark at night so yes it is dangerous in terms of traffic on the road in the rural areas.

Hi Winterrose ...I live in Kansas in a town that I am not afraid to walk at night. I do a lot of walking in the summer time when the sun sets cause its to hot during the day time. You really dont have to be afraid to walk where I live. I even take walks with my grandkids when its dark out.No problems here so far.

I love my city too and i love to walk also for long nd long in good weather conditions but in my city (Karachi, Pakistan) street crimes are now common and no one wants to involve if something like this is going on so most of us are quite afraid of walking alone specially in late nights. When i visit my sister in other province there i can walk freely coz they have strict control over all this kind of situation.

I live in a little township in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I'm not afraid to walk here where I live. But I would be afraid to walk in, say, downtown Cincinnati. Or in some parts of the area known for crime. Or even parts of the area with which I am not familiar.

its all i have ever known so its funny/weird is to hear that people can walk at night without fear.. where as you think its weird for me to not be able to.. interesting eh? though id admit that my hubby getting held up at gunpoint a street away in my neighborhood while walking home from the bus SHOULD have been unusual..

I live in McPherson, Kansas. I am not afraid to walk at any time, day or night. There are some places that I would not go, but in my neighborhood, or downtown, I would walk easily.

Dear friend, I live in a small place in India, in Kochi it is very small town. Here it is not safe to walk alone during nights at times and also it depends day to day activities occurred here. Moreover sometimes we may be able to get police at right time of need. Hence I am not afraid but some I am not safe to walk alone in streets as times.

Hi my friend, I live in Illinois in the USA in a relatively nice neighborhood. I don't mind walking during the daytime hours but I don't like walking at night. I used to live in this neighborhood in my teen years and never thought much about running around the neighborhood after dark. I guess as I got older, I've gotten more scared of different things. Happy MyLotting! Char
