Marriage after divorce

November 8, 2006 9:29am CST
I am 30 years old and have been with my current partner for the last 5 years, we would now like to get married and really want a church wedding. However I am also a divorcee (having married at a young age) and I am aware not many churches will marry me (especially a catholic church, which incidently I am - catholic!)but as I say we would really like a church to marry us.

A non-Catholic church would marry you, I am sure. They certainly would in most countries. Just ask around - many churches need the money!

I notice that you re in the UK. As I was led to believe, you are not allowed to get married in church if you have been divorced. But... you can have a blessing I think.

My cousin is Catholic. She got a divorce and had the marriage annulled. She was able to get remarried in a Catholic church. Was your marriage annulled? If not, is it too late to do that? I wouldn't think so, but I'm not Catholic. Good luck!

If you don't follow your heart and have the wedding you want, you will regret it later. I am sure you can find a church that will marry you. It might not be Catholic, but you can find a Protesant or Unitarian church for sure. Have you talked to your priest?
