House or Apartment?

Given a choice, and considering that no other elements are affecting your decision, would you prefer to live in a house or an apartment? Do you enjoy having a backyard in which your dog can run around in or are you more of the city-type person?

I would prefer living in a house. I like the idea of being able to eat outside in my own backyard, of having the option to get a pet, and, almost most importantly, of not having to worry about noisy neighbors! No more would I be forced to endure and simply cover my head with a pillow at night if the above inhabitants decided to rearrange their living room furniture; no more would I have to worry about practicing piano at nine at night; and no longer would I have to hesitate over whether or not the people in the next flat can hear everything my mother, father, and I shout stupidly during our arguments. I sort of... got a bit too into that... Anyways, while houses require more work, I've always preferred apartments. If I had the choice, I would definitely go for the former.

Ah yes, you speak well, old friend. I, too, must often cover my cranium with pillows of various sizes while making futile attempts to sleep during the dark hours of the night. In all seriousness though, you're right. Houses have a lot more space.

I used the word "space" simply because I felt that "personal freedom" would be awkward and inappropriate when placed in such a phrase. When speaking of the situation from this point of view, one must agree with you again, as the citizens of the UAE are most inconsiderate to their neighbours, particularly after sunset hours. Evidently their desire is to deprive me and many others of the "personal freedom" we feel that we are entitled to in our own apartments. Thank you for your response and clarification.

That's true: apartments are more compact and you may find it easier to be close to people you know. It could be easier to get around in the city and you may have access to gatherings that would be hard to reach from the country. Thanks for the response. ^_^

I love where I live because it has a garden and a country view. My house is in a very quiet locality and there is plenty of room for my two dogs. I could happily live in the countryside or by the sea. I wouldn't feel happy living in an apartment in the city. The noise and lack of space would be likely to bother me.

Same, a life in the countryside appeals to me a whole lot more than in the city, although having an apartment close to city facilities is usually more convenient. Lack of space is what bothers me where I live now, especially because I can't practice piano after hours because of the neighbours.

Hello! Instead of purchasing a suits in the apartment I preferred to purchase a piece of land for construction of a small house of my own and live in my own lifestyle.I am fond of planting trees and plants in my backyard and plant some flower plants in the front lawn.Gardening is my hobby.Working in the garden for some time in the evening keeps me fit. This I would miss in an apartment. There will be no privacy in an apartment too. Lots of noise would make me bore.So I am happy in my small house.

That's would be very nice. ^_^ I know a lot of people that live in the countryside and garden often. It's a great, useful, and healthy hobby, but you'll definitely need a house for that.

I live in an apartment myself. They have their advantages, but I still prefer houses. Good luck and I hope you acheive your goal soon!

I've lived in apartments in the city and houses in the suburbs so I've experienced both lifesytles. While it's more inconvenient in some ways to live out of town, I would rather have a yard and the freedom and privacy that goes along with it. There's only so much that you can do to an apartment...inside and out.

i and my hubby prefer to live in a house with a backyard rather than in an apartment... my hubby never like to live in an apartment... we love to have space and the maintenance fee to live in an apartment is also too high... take care and have a nice day...

True: life in the country is more relaxing and leisurely. It's generally more enjoyable than the hectic life of the city.

Only lived ones in an apartment and that was the last for me. I prefer a house but not a common house. I need space from the nearest neighbor. Right now I am in peace where I live.

I'd rather live in a house if it were completely and totally possible. I like having all the privacy that a house provides. Apartments don't provide for much privacy as you're constantly dealing with all the people that live around you and many of them are not so quiet and it's rude. I also like having a private yard space to spend time in. It's nice being able to go outside on your own property whenever you want and not have to deal with other people.

House - Home sweet home.
I would choose to buy a house for sure, because you dont have to share walls with other tenants, and you have lots more storage space, and a backyard and a garden I always wanted to have a small garden for planting things, and I could have my pet there without paying a huge pet deposit, theres so many wonderful benefits to having a home, for me. the positives out way the negatives when it comes to home ownership so I would definitely choose to buy a house over an apartment for sure.

I would have to say hands down I would want a house. At least then you will own the property! Rent is nothing but padding someone elses pocketbooks with them doing very little work other than restricting your pets if they even allow you to have them! If I had a choice I would actually rather have a farm because then I would be able to produce my own food without worrying about the processing that would be happening that I dont know about and avoid all the food recalls!

Good point. You would be able to do whatever you want with a house when you own it. Apartments, if rented (as they usually are), are more restricted and allow for less freedom. You'll probably need permission to do certain things when it comes to room arrangement or work.

I have always preferred living in a house. I grew up in a house on a farm and then spent several years living in apartments. I found apartments to be much to restrictive. I now live in a mobile home that I own, and I enjoy that I can make any changes that I want without having to get someone's permission each time I want to drive a nail.

Hi Zezloler. If given the choice of house or apartment and money was not an option, I would definately choose a house. While there are advantages to each, I would prefer to have a house with at least a small yard in the suburbs. I like being close to the city, especially when we have automotive problems. At least most places are within walking distance. The last time we lived in a house we had a huge yard that was a pain to mow with just a push mower, but if I had my own house and just a small yard I think it would be worth it. A house usually comes with a garage and extra storage space and that's something else I really miss when we live in apartments. I think the only thing I would miss about living in an apartment is the maintenance staff. Anytime something breaks, you just call the problem in and someone else comes to fix it. Although hubby & I took care of many repairs when we lived in a house, hubby would definately prefer not having to hear me remind him that things need fixing. He really hates the Honey Do List!
