Do you always get what you want?

Ok, I know it is a stupid question, but at least, I feel it is capable of getting more responses than my previous discussion on free writing contests. With so many writers in Mylot, I was under the impression that at least some of them would have participated in free writing contests. I was therefore shocked to see only two responses. And I was actually planning to write an article with all those wonderful links to free writing contest websites that I thought I would get. LOL! So, has this happened to you? Did you start a discussion expecting tons of responses only to get a handful? Before you accuse me of pessimism, let me add that some of my dumbest discussions have gotten over a 100 responses. Cheers and happy Mylotting

hahaha!! I agree with you. I am also wondering why discussion that seems nonsense or not a thought provoking one, has lots of responses and the serious topics have just 3 or 4? I think people don't want to burden their minds thinking of how to give their inputs in serious things. hahaha... as for me, for some reasons I like fun. I like to answer funny or humorous discussions. Well, about writing? ahhahah only very few would love to answer that am sure. Not all here are into writing, they are just force to write here for fun and not for contest.

I do get what I want as long as I know what I want. I am in the point of my life when I don't know what I really want and it is leading me in the wrong direction. I have to meditate more often to find out what I want.

Yup...but sometimes, meditation makes you feel so contented that you want nothing. Have you experienced this? Cheers and thanks for the response

No, I don't always get what I want. That's one thing a lot of us learn, early on in our lives. But honestly, I don't mind, if I don't get a lot.

When you write a discussion with expectations, you are bound to get disappointed. just start a discussion and leave teh response to people. I feel delighted even if I get one response. The problem her eis that people have no time to read long drawn discussions nor give long drawn responses. Writers prefer to go sites which pay for writing.

Hi positveminded.. No,I don't always get what I want. I have started dicussions on here before that I thought might get more responses. I was a little disappointed but what do you do? I chalk it up as a flop and try again. Sometimes people are drawn to lighter conversations.

It depends my friend, sometimes you are writing a discussion on a particular specialized subject that not many people would know much about or feel they could actively contribute too, so I can see where you are coming from on the free writing contest, I felt I couldn't answer that particular discussion because I don't know of any and I always think there is no point in responding if I can't offer anything valid or for the sake of waffling or just to get a cent for doing so, which is pointless and no help to the person asking the question. I always keep an open mind when I start discussions if I get a response great if not, I understand, two good informative responses are sometimes better than pages and pages of responses which sympathize with you or agree with you without giving you an answer to what you were originally asking!

Hi Wolfie...you are absolutely right! Some of my really tough writing discussions got plenty of responses. I was a bit surprised that something as simple as free writing contests got nothing. LOL!! "Hey, where are all these writers?" I wondered. Guess they are busy promoting articles on AC. :) Cheers and thanks for the response

well i dont always get what i want.... when i was a kid i used to get most of the things i wanted but now its a bit harder cos the want has gone up and so has the price of the wants and now if i want something then i gotto get it myself.... it was easier when you are a kid... you can blame your parents for not giving you what you wanted.... but now when you youself have to work for what you want .... thats the cliche..... but i dont think there is anyone who has satisfied all his wants... if a person has satisfied his materialistic wants then there are other wants like spiritual wants that he may want to satisfy.... i think wants never end.... wants just keep increasing whether it is materliastic or something else..... like i always will want more responses to all my discussions but i definately dont get it do i? some people do and some dont

No, in most cases, I have not got what I wanted and I still don’t get what I want. Maybe I do, but then its so late in the day that I almost don’t want it anymore or it has lost its importance. However, I have got THE two most important things of life that I wanted…my hubby and my son. BTW I dont understand your question and its relevance to the discussion. When I first read the question, I was under the impression of wanting things in life and I framed my response accordingly. Then I understood that it is actually about the number of responses our discussions get.

Hehehe...nopes, you understood perfectly. It was a little bit of both. I had hoped to get a lot of information on free writing contests, but did not get any. So, I thought of using it as an example. LOL!! Cheers and thanks for the response.

yes it has happened and then some of my dumbest discussions got the most responses well over 100 as well. you sort have to study the response patterns of mylotters and if your goal is to get more responses, write what they want to read, mostly it is dumb stuff because not that mylotters are dumb, they just want mylot to be fun, they don't want to have to think hard about stuff, they just want to give a quick answer and go onto the next discussion, of course their are people that want good stuff that is why I do a mixture, some stuff you have to think about to answer, some you don't have to think at all and some stuff where you actually learn something as well.

You are absolutely right, winterose! People don't come to Mylot to burden their brains with thought.. :) Cheers and thanks for the response

Hi positiveminded, If I got what I wanted all the time, I'd be making more money here lol. I guess most of my discussions are just to serious for most people who look on this as a fun place to be. I don't have a problem with that, it should be fun but I think it depends on what you enjoy reading. A lot of people just like to be laid back and relaxed, but that's okay. Blessings.

Hi positiveminded, I won't know much about writing or where to start, but I only do some poems, sorry I cannot help you with that, the most responses I got for my discussion was 27, so I'm not that good with my discussion. Tamara

I have often not got what I wanted. It is very difficult to get what one wants. One has to work very hard for it. It is far easier to sit and day-dream. Either way, you may not get what you want, so it is better to laze around than work hard and waste time.

oh no... definitely no... and i had learn to live with it... this world is not perfect and we can't have everything that we want... even in mylotting, i don't always get the number of responses that i want... but it doesn't really bother me that much anymore because i try to take it easy here... take care and have a nice day...

I do not get what I want. Otherwise i would have more than a handful or two of people on my friends list here at MyLot responding to my discussions. As I do a very good job of making sure my discussions follow the guidelines. hey, what a mintue. I bet that is my problem. My discussion aren't a voilation or one are simple answers..no thinking required.
