do you miss your old house when you move to a new one?

hi all! we moved twice already. in 1985, we moved from central Phils to Manila. and then in 1995, we moved just next door to a new house we had built (we used to rent a small apartment, until we were able to build a new house of our own). although i couldn't recall 1985 because i was just 3 years old, i can clearly remember the 1995 moving. and even if we just moved next door, i still feel so sad about having to leave the old house. i've had so much fond memories there. and the house taught me and my parents the value of humility, since it was a small and very simple apartment. because of hard work, a new and bigger house was built through my parents' efforts. and even my pet cat still went to the old house and kept sleeping on the old bed for three weeks! i sure miss the good old times at the old house... how about you guys? when you move to a new house, do you miss the times you had when you were still in your old house? thanks and have a great day! =)

i have only moved two houses in my life (22 years) but we do miss the previous ones that we left behind. that is also because we take time to adjust to the new house and environment and also we miss our friends near that house more than that house.

hi there brucekaushik! i agree with you that we tend to miss our old house because of all the good memories we had... the old ambience, the old environment and the old friends, especially if you're moving hundreds of miles away, or especially when you're moving to another country. but, come to think of it, we move because of a reason: we always move for a new and better future. =) thanks and more power to you! =)

I like that idea, moving for the better. I'm 18 currently and when I was about 11 my parents split up and my dad moved into a new house. That was fine, I could handle that, but about 2 years later my mum wanted to move into a new house. Logically it makes sense prehaps after a divroce a new start (even though it's 2 years gone). However I found it exceptionally hard to let go. Like seriously hard. I guess to me it was prehaps the last attachment I have to my fully formed family. We eventually sold the house and I have been around once after that. This sounds mad, but I still dream about the house and coming to think of it I havent once dreamt about the house I have been living in for three years. It's almost like it had magical properties that captivated my niave young mind. Its like I have left a part of me in that house. I guess everyone has different financial ambitions. Mine, well I plan to buy back my house and live in it with my family when I grow up. I'm not sure if it will happen, but some 4 years after I set foot in my house I remain hopeful... So sorry its so long I got a little carried away. Please share your thoughts on anything I have mentioned. Brian

It depends on how long one has stayed in the old house. I remember having stayed in my old house since my childhood and after a long period of 30 years or so moved out of that house. It was certainly not easy to adjust to the new house and it took over 6 months for me to get a hang of the new place. The orientation itself took so long that i on many occassions took the wrong route home and at times landed up in front of the old house.

hi there alokn99! thanks for replying to this post! wow, 30 years is a very long period, and you would certainly miss your old house. in my experience, during the first 2 months, i kept absent-mindedly ending up at the old house (just next door) and kept wondering why the gate was locked, only to recall that i should be entering the new house next door. LOL! thanks again and happy mylotting! =)
