Video game improves seniors' mental skills

I came across this while seaching video games online and thought it was very interesting.
"CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. researchers say they've found playing a strategic video game can improve the mental skills of adults in their 60s and 70s."
"The researchers found, overall, video game training improved participants' performance on several tests. As a group, the gamers became significantly better and faster at switching between tasks compared with a comparison group. Their working memory, as reflected in the tests, also was significantly improved and their reasoning ability was enhanced."

This is not really shocking. I'm an avid AVID gamer and one of the few things I can say is that I can multitask alot and well. I believe its what some real time strategy gamers call micro. And thank you for the interesting topic!

Well that is from excessive use which most scientists discourage. The studdy didn't say how long they tested each person BUT I have also heard they are good for teaching kids hand eye coordination.

That sound very interesting.They use the ninteno wii in old peoples homes in England as it improves dexterity and brain function. most of these people are only in the homes because they cannot manage at home,not because they have lost their marbles,up till then they were paying their own bills and running thier lives really well,and once they go into the homes they stop using thier skills and losing them over times,it is a good way of saying use it or lost it.
