Do you like to buy bread from the day old bread stores?

Do you have one close by to shop at? I have found on the darker more exspensive breads and on the ryes, that it is a tremendous savings each year. They also have bagels and many other things at reduced prices.

We used to have a bread factory in the city and they used to sell off the mis-shapen bread and rolls that they baked there. It was quite popular as the stuff was fresh but cosmetically ugly, which did not affect the taste. It was quite popular but the factory closed down. There are no day old bread stores around here. They put so many chemicals in the bread now it lasts for two weeks on the shelf anyways.

We don't have one in our town, but the neighboring town does and we stop every time we get a chance.

I like my bread fresh and it needs to be eaten on the day of baking, bread goes off so quickly and as soon as it turns stale then I won't eat it, although the birds are very grateful for any bread that doesn't get eaten. I like nice fresh granary bread which you can cut yourself, i.e they don't slice it for you, so I can cut off nice big wedges! There's nothing nicer than to eat bread straight from the oven when it's hot, yum!

There used to be one close by that my mother and I would go to a lot. This was when my kids were younger and we would also not just buy breads but also little pies and snack cakes, rolls, buns along with bread. We sure did get some good deals. The person working there let us know which was the best day and time to come for the freshest of the day old things.

They have a dela at this one , if you purchase at least 6 dollars worth then you get a free item . They will tell us which days are best at this one too. The girl who works there is very nice.

I forgot that we used to have a little card and for every dollar you spent they could punch it out and then you get a free item. Also sometimes they would have a buy one get one free sale.

I do hope this one remains open because they carry certain items that I really like. I like the oats and grain breads that have the added fiber and taste. I really like the russian rye and some of those.

I do not think that the bread is reduced that much at these stores. I do not think that it is worth the small amount of saving based on the freshness of the bread. Perhaps we have different stores. I have found a small store in my area that sells bread very very cheaply and it is the freshest bread you can possibly find! I guess I got lucky in my discovery, because I have not found it anywhere else.

I have to content myself with bakery overstock in local stores. There is no bakery thrift shop in my town. I could possibly drive about a half hour to get to one, or check one out on a rare day when I shop out of town.

There used to be a hostess store nearby where I live. I loved going into it and buying the breads. I went there one morning about a year ago, and they had closed down. I was so sad that they closed, it was a hugh savings, the breads and cakes were so inexpensive there. Since they closed, I have not been to another store like that.
