My dad grinds his teeth when he is asleep. It's quite bad & very loud. I can hear him LOUD and CLEAR from my room which is across my parent's room. Do you grind your teeth? Why do people grind their teeth anyway?

i know of someone who does this. it really is scary to hear that loud and clear sound at night. its very concerning at the very least. someone told me that i used to do that as well before. although not as often as the person i know, i seem to have attacks of it when i am subconsciously under stress. i have asked some doctor friends of mine and they say the same thing. it seems teeth grinding is somehow stress related.

stress you say? hmmm.. is there any way to cure it? did your doctor friend recommend any ways to minimize this? maybe like try thinking of happy thoughts? it's quite worrisome because he grinds his teeth every night. hmmm... maybe i'd try brewing some soothing tea.

There are mouth pieces that can be used to minimize or prevent this problem. The mouth pieces are similar to mouth guards that are used for sports.

that's a good idea, to have mouth pieces. but i don think my dad would be receptive to it. i mean you know, men and ego. doesn't help that he is a male chauvinist.

I do grind my teeth. People do this when stressed. You know how you clench your teeth when you are upset? thats what we do while sleeping and then this leads to grinding. I can tell you we do not like it! I wake up in the morning and it feels like my teeth are falling out!

I started grinding my teeth because of a seizure disorder. Over time it has become a habit that is very hard to break. I have not had anyone tell me that my grinding is loud or noisy. hmmm. Maybe I should ask my family about this.

Definitely not but my sister does it once in a while. Were in the same room so I hear it when she grinds her teeth. She doesn't do it every night though the first time I saw and hear her grinds her teeth scared me. I thought she was dreaming or something. I watched her for a sec. eventually she stopped and sleeps soundly. The next day I told her about her grinding her teeth, she couldn't believed that she do that. She absolutely don't know that she grinds her teeth until I told her. I'm curios to know why people do that. Anyone knows why some people grinds teeth during sleep?

I don 't gring teeth, but it is realy quite bad to hear it.I would like to give you some of the reason I know: 1.Stress. Some of friends have gave you this answer.I agree with them. 2.Verminous and intestinal infections affection. Now the life condition is improved, this possiblity is small. 3. Disorder of digestive function. If people eat too before sleeoing, the food would stimulis the alimentary canal and cause teeth grind. 4.Dietary nutrition disequilibrium. You can check some information for your Dad and give some advise on the dinner. Hope my answer can help you.

Grinding one's teeth is an involuntary action that is bad for the teeth and the jaw. Your dad needs to see a dentist and to get a mouth guard to protect his teeth. This is urgent.
