There are so much misunderstaning to biblical scripture, even by most Christians; that they spread the wrong message to those outside of the faith and to unbelievers who want to try understanding biblical scriptures. Christians must try to study the Bible together with a reputable Bible study group or rather an approved 'Bible study course.' in many instances I have come accross or encountered, that so many sincere Christians only have a superficial uderstanding of the Bible. It's as important as studying for a diploma/degree in the Social sciences. I mean, you cannot have knowledge of 'Social Science,' unless you study the subject. The same is true of knowledge of the scriptures (the Bible) Because the Bible is a volume of 66 different books; which is devided into two parts: nl. the 'Old Testament' and the 'New Testament,' and it's NT version contains a lot of spiritual content, analagy or parables; And the OT history and prophecy. We should try to get to it's meaning by reading the entire chapter, and not just verse by verse. Then progress to reading the entire book etc. The best thing to to do is to obtain a good Study Bible. This will cost more than an ordinary Bible, but it gives you the meanings and explanations of the scriptural text. It provides you with all the information you would otherwise not have been able to obtain by merely reading the scriptures. The 'Study Bible' also provide a good basis of information of the old world map; which guides you to know where these countries are and who these modern nations are today. So the investment is worth it's weight in gold.

I´m not a big fan of the Bible but I am curious, too. I read that they misinterpret ¨virgin¨ with ¨young lady¨. That goes for the language where the Bible was from. I have read the Bible. I think I´d be questioning and be making fun of my religion more today than I did before.

Even though the mistake as you said the difference of young girl to virgin. Please take note that Mary was indeed a virgin. God does not dwell into dirty vessel and if Mary was not a virgin then she would not be choosen.

God didn't really give a reason why he chose Mary. She was a good person but there was nothing "special" about her.

There is no human on earth that can be sinless. Remember we are born in sin and shape in iniquity. Jesus was born sinless. He came down as man so that through him we can be save. Being save doesn't mean that we don't committed sin. We sin when we know not and this is why we have to pray and asked for forgiveness. Islander there is nothing wrong in committing a sin but it is how one go about this sin. There are persons who know that what they do is wrong and instead of seeking repentance they make it seems as if it is something right. We should always acknowledge our sin and go in repentance mood. Do you read the book of Psalm. In this book David acknowledge his sin but he repented. We should always remember that it is not the fall but what we do after falling.

Now my dear I don't need a Study Bible these are persons trying to make money. Every Books in the bible are intertwined. Before one starts to study the bible he/she should pray for understanding and wisdom so that the Holy Ghost do his work. When Jesus was ascending to heaven he told his disciples that he will be sending the HOLY GHOST to teach and comfort us. So I will depend on the Holy Ghost to give me wisdom and understanding. I don't need any man made book to cloud my mind and let me lose faith.

A study bible is for people who need that guidance of practical explanations of scripture. You have to pray for understanding and also make the effort to get the help you need. Otherwise, Kerriannc your faith is useless, if you don't put in the effort also.

Trans what kind of question is that. I said I don't need a STUDY BIBLE. I didn't say I don't need a Bible. Study bibles are ones that have a lot of references and discussions. When growing up there were no such thing as STUDY BIBLE. There were bible studies which we attend and discuss the word of God. Since the implementation of Study Bible churches stop having indept bible studies. There is no one to one discussions. If someone does not understand the bible then no one is there to reason it out. Everyone nowadays are going to the book stores and buying these books. I prefer the one and one discussion this is how I was able to know the bible. We still have this at my work place. Every week we have bible studies and this has been sustaining me alot. I would encourage persons to seek out the bible this way than to go to the store and purchasing those books.

Study Bibles are great! They actually help you understand what God is saying in more modern language. It will not cloud your mind or cause you to lose faith.

wsamboer, Your post is awesome. And, you are very wise to see that there is more to the Bible than most read into it. Hence; the problem, there is nothing to read into it... I do not claim any denomination and feel that the term "Christian" has been callously tossed around. How many truly "Christ-like" people do you know? In todays time we have Churches that teach their congreation man-made doctrines that have NOTHING to do with what the BIBLE actually says. To read that book, you need only the wisdom of a child. To learn to walk the road of faith is with that same child-like attitude that accepts without question and asks God for the answers to what the Bible says.

Truthful words like yours, RhythmWalker1, were seldom spoken. God warns us against the man-made relegion you mention; and the doctrines of men. Some Churches are really misleading the poor sheep away from the truth. And many followers just believe their false teachers, because they never follow up on the scriptures' meaning, preached to them, Sunday after Sunday.

I am sorry for saying this. I am Catholic and I do believe that the bible creates a double standard. It might say one thing and mean many other things that we may not understand. Nobody,I believe, has created full understanding of the bible. No one has yet decrypted the true implied meanings of the scriptures. There are many inconsistencies in the bible and I stand by what I believe that the bible is not fully factual. I am a Catholic that dares to question the credibility of the bible but not the credibility of God. I mean no harm. It is just my opinion...

and by-the-way why does somebody need to be labeled "Christian" or "Catholic" in order to be acknowledged as a follower or a believer? I personally don't want to be called Catholic but seeing how the world can only understand only commercialism in it's sense, I chose to label myself as Catholic when explaining... Thank you

Yes, you are right. One should read the Bible properly. Only then one can see the errors and contradictions in the Bible. You say one should get a good study Bible. But I cannot trust those write study Bibles. These could be people with vested interests. So, when I read the Bible, I read it with my own wisdom and intelligence which the Almighty has given. If I find an error, I do not care what any study group says. My wisdom has found an error or cruelty on the part of God and that is that.

Sorry, Frederick42, I can see that your own understanding is not really helping you. Yes, you have a right to your opinion, but ultimately you still have to proof how you have found the cruelty and error on the part of God. You are missing the point as far as who God is, and why your understanding is based on faltering human error on your side. You are missing the spiritual connection, Frederick. You are merely pointing to understanding of the superficial and practical issues. I think you're a bit too synical on the subject of Biblical understanding. Try having an open minded attitude on the subject and you will start to understand what I mean by "spiritual understanding.

It is becoz of my own understanding that I came to realize the truth about the Bible. Proof of the cruelty of God is there in the Bible itself. If you have not read it properly , it is not my fault. Spirituality has nothing to do with Bible. Spirituality can nevr enter the heart as long as a person considers Bible as word of God. If you are an open-minded person, read the trilogy 'conversations with God' written by Neale Donald Wlasch. He has given a very good concept of God. Or you could read 'Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle.
