A sad story about a stock.

So I bought a stock that looked like it was ready to turn around. It started to, and the chart started to look like it had a chance. It was making a new short term high, and didn't go below the last low. I was pretty happy. Then the earnings were released. And the result is the chart below. I think it's pretty sad, especially since I like to make money, and I am not the biggest fan of losing it . So basically, I had a stock that went from 22 to 16 literally overnight. Check out the sad daily chart on this one. The worst thing about this is that I told myself not to hold short term trades through their earnings reports, and I told myself that after losing on a trade just two weeks ago. I just failed to check when earnings were coming out before I bought this. So there is no one to blame but myself.

I bought a share of stock for a friend once, and the company had a promotion where they gave me a share of some near worthless stock as an incentive. So I held onto that thing for about ten years and then it changed names a few times and split and stuff and finally went from a dollar or two up to $34 USD, but then I found out that in order to sell it I would have to go through some ridiculous legal proceeding that would cost $65 in fees, because the company had gone bankrupt and the new owners wanted all sorts of proof of ownership or whatever. They said the certificate wasn't any good anymore. But my friend liked the stock I gave as a gift so well that he bought a whole bunch more of the same and his is doing fine. Some people get good free stuff and some don't.

If you like stock charts, you should check out the ones at my web page. You can get there through my profile page. The cover story for June 2001 of THE TECHNICAL ANALYSIS OF STOCKS AND COMMODITIES MAGAZINE was an article about an earlier version of the kind of stock chart at my web site. There is free program there to create these kinds of charts using free data from finance.yahoo.

i share your feeling of addiction brian, i love the feeling of beeing right and when your stock goes up, i feel like i'm in heaven. one thing that you must learn about trading stocks is that you must learn to be emotionless. learn as much as you can about the stock and how to become a better trader. trading is the way to go when we enter a bear market. in a bull market, almost all stocks go up, you don't need your big brain to do the thingking in a bull market.

You are right that I need to learn to keep my emotions out of trading. I hope I can learn to do that.
