Do you think it is o.k. for your kids to go to the movies alone at age 10?

in this day and age i would not recommend you send your young child to the movies alone,to many dangers out there a young child shouldn't go anywhere by themselves, when my kids were young i never let them go anywhere by themselves, now they are 22 and 23 and i still worry about them out there

At 10 years old kids still need someone to protect them, no matter how "grown up" they may seem. There are a lot of hidden dangers that lurk around every corner and once you loose a child they are gone forever. Hold them close

I wouldn't let my stepdaughters go at that age...nor would my sister let her kids go at that age.

I wouldn't send a 10 year old out by themselves. You should be real careful with your kids and watch them because one day you might be sorry.

I thank you for your comment, I was just asking what everyone would do, I am very careful with my daughter, I just wanted to see what other parents thought.

Well, it depends. Where is the movies located? It depends on the area within the movies.

Heck no. 10 is much too young. Depending on the kid and how mature they are 14 is a good age for them to start going to the movies alone.

No- there are a number a things that could occur, and a child of this age is not capable of appropriately dealing with these kinds of problems. Adult supervision is a must at this age (in public).

At this age, its not advisable to send your kidz alone at the movie house or in malls or anywhere.. they could easily get into some trouble... ;)

Ohh no no..10 is a bit too young for me. Now back when I was 10 that was a bit different, but there is just too much going on these days not only with kidnapping , but with other kids robbing and bullying younger kids. I think 14 should be a more appropriate age.

i think 10 is too young, even though some kids at that age are probably more mature than the average i wouldn't recommend it...to many freaks on the loose also!

HECK NO!!!!!!! I think that 10 is way to young to go to the movies alone. I might let my 10 year old (if I had one) go to the movies "alone" with me sitting in the back of the theatre.

I think that is a good idea, maybe if I sit in the back. Thanks for the comment.

I think maybe at the age 13 and only then with a group of friends and then I think they should check in from time to time

Absolutely no way. My son is almost 8 yr old and I couldn't never imagine him going to the movies alone. I won't let him go into a man's bathroom alone.

I agree, 8 is way to young, but a man's bathroom, come on, you have to give them a little freedom, I mean standing outside and waiting for them is fine, but not letting them to in at all, I don't think I will let her go to the movies alone, I just think she is definalty to young and it is not her I worry about it is all the other people she will come in contact with while there. Thanks for the comment.

well i think it will depend largely on two things: the location of the moviehouse and the kid's personality. If the moviehouse is in a real quiet neighborhood where it is safe and people who go there does not have any other intention but to watch a movie, then YES i'd say that's ok. if the kid also has a strong personality and independent enough to take good care of himself or herself then i'd also say YES. BUT if the location of the moviehouse and the kid's personality are contrary to what i mentioned earlier, then i don't think he/she should be allowed to go alone. times are changing and there are a lot of bad people lurking around. better safe than sorry.

You are so right, it does all depend on the child, my child is very responsible and the movie house is just right up the street, I just worry, so many things going on these days, I think maybe I will wait a few more years and see about it then, I just don't feel safe in her going just yet, Thanks for the comment.

My Grandson - What a cutie he is.
I think with a group of friends, to an age appropriate movie, it would be fine. Of course, we all have to educate our children on the hidden dangers that are out in public and society. If you drop the kids off right before the movie starts and pick them up exactly when it is over, they should be plenty safe. It is hard to let our kids grow up. But we have to. Hugs to you.

Thanks so much that is a great comment. I was just very skeptical, you know all the things that can go wrong. My daughter is very responsible and I think she would be o.k. to go, I just wanted some other opinions as to what you all would do. It is so hard to let you child go out a little on their own, so many bad things going on these days.
