Why always given the back seats?

China

Several years ago, when I was on a business trip with a delegation, it so happened that whether on a foreign airplane, or on a chinese airplane we were always given the back seats either check in first or last. It was so annoying! When back home, I dug into the puzzle, only to find that it was not meant to hurt anybody specifically, but an issue of cultural difference. The Americans take more about its own people, while the chinese give higher prestige to guests. Hope by globalization, fairness will be practised in a more reasonable way.

It makes sense to give better seats and respect to guests but it doesn't mean that you have to disrespect your own. Could be that your delegation got the tickets cheap so they decided you were not too picky. Same as in most life situations, you get what you pay for. I don't really care where my seat is even though it's nice to be by the window. However,a few years back I've had my share of bad luck when flying or taking a bus. I got a seat by the bathroom BOTH on the plane and on the bus! lol That's still no biggie,at least the plane didn't crash or anything.
