Worst gift EVER??

What do you think is the worst gift EVER? I'm trying to find the link to what I think might be the worst - a little boy received what he thought was an Xbox 360 but when he opened the box, it was full of CLOTHES. I think he was probably like 8 or 9 years old, and he was crying by the end of the video. THEN I found out it was a prank his family played on him and he GOT the Xbox later... but oh man, that is horrible. I think the worst thing I ever got was a dress that didn't fit me - not that I would have worn it anyway because it was incredibly ugly on top of not fitting. Want to know why it didn't fit? I was probably 12 years old and one of my relatives had sewn it, and she FORGOT to um.... alter the front of it so I would fit in it. I think she forgot I was 12 and had a chest or something, I couldn't even get it over my shoulders and I was so horribly embarrassed... My sister made fun of me for weeks. HER dress FIT. I have to say giving anybody anything except an actual Xbox (or an Ipod or Iphone or playstation or whatever) in the box is really mean and horrible, and I will find them and put coal in their stocking next year.

I SAW THAT VIDEO! And so did my mom. She felt so bad that she was trying to find out who that kid was so she could send him an Xbox. I think the worst gift I ever got was a candyland game I got... when I was 13! I mean, I used to play candyland.... in kindergarten!

The worst gift ive ever witnessed is probably what my uncle did to my grandfather last year. My grandfather is a very money driven person, he seriously has a tomb next to his he says he wants his money buried in (he says, "who says you cant take it with you?) Anyway, my uncle got him one of those fake lottery tickets. My grandfather is 82 (you wouldnt know it, he acts and looks 50) and didnt catch on and a family feud kind of erupted on how he would divvy up the 10 grand. No one else was in on it so it got kind of heated and my uncle let it go on into the next day before laughing at the old man and letting him in on the joke. I just think it was cruel and in bad taste. People have been getting ugly and wrong sized clothing since the dawn of consumerist holidays. I think its just something we all have to grin and bear at some point :) My step mom still thinks im 12 too (im 26) and gets me pink, frilly things that are just god awful, haha. For my 15th birthday my dad played a prank on me like the little boy, id been saving for a guitar for 2 years and there was this guitar case with a bow on it, oh was i excited. But when i opened it it was an inflatable guitar inside. I almost cried, but you know how you have to hide your dissapointment, at the end of the night my dad asked me to take the trash to the end of the driveway and when i went to the garage on top of the trash bin was a brand new beautiful guitar.

That's pretty bad! I mean I can see from your uncle's perspective why he did something like that, but to cause a feud? And let it continue overnight? . Speaking of burying people with money, I guess some people now want to be buried with cell phones. Just thought I'd mention that. The clothing thing would have been a little more amusing if it was just something that was bought that was ugly and didn't fit. My grandma would get measurements from my mom every year, she usually sewed things all during the year, not just for Christmas. It was the first time something had ever not fit. I don't know whether to partially hold my mom responsible for it - she's the one who didn't update the measurements lol. It's bad enough being 12, I did some other things back then that are hilarious now.... I tried the ace bandage trick to avoid wearing a bra (it doesn't work), I tried using tweezers because I didn't want to grow hair anywhere, typical 'I'm still a little girl' mentality. It doesn't work. Heh. Fortunately you kinda grow into it and accept it and even embrace it after awhile.

That is so friggin cruel. I would NEVER do that to my kid. I don't care if he got it later that is just mean. I don't think I have ever gotten anything I didn't like. I am easy to please so Ijust go with the flow.

I'm pretty easy too. I just like being thought of, and often that doesn't even mean a gift. I like to spend time with people, that's a better 'gift' than a gift most of the time.

I do not actually do too bad for gifts, I am trying to wrack my brains to think of the worst gift I ever had and the only thing I come up with is when my father in law got me a pot pourri set. I cannot stand pot pourri at all and so it was awful! I think it is still in one of my cupboards somewhere!!

Fortunately after 3 years it probably does not even smell any more, you could toss it out and nobody would be wiser. Another idea for potpourri if you ever get it again is to use it in packaging gifts for other people, put some in little netting bags (you can get things like that at craft or dollar stores) and tie with ribbon and just add in with packaging, inside a box or gift bag. Other people might like it and then actually use it, and you can get it out of your house slowly.

I personally think prank jokes or playing games like this on anyone thats little is a sign of abuse right up there with tickling when you ask them to stop... When someone is small its not nice to pull jokes on a child they can be tramatised by it with lasting affects.. Teens and Adults now play all you want but please don't anyone mess with a childs dreams and wishes..

I agree. I have a little one and I would NEVER tell her she is getting a (insert really cool really special gift here) and then give her the box full of clothes, or worse - crushed tissue paper. I mean my friend and I exchanged some gag gifts last year, but we had already exchanged REAL gifts before - plus we aren't 9 years old desperately hoping that everybody pools their money to buy us XBox 360s lol.

Did you ask santa (or your parents) for a doll? I always have told my kids to at least ask for things, like a big thing and then give some suggestions of other things. I did ask my parents for things when I was a kid, but I didn't always get what I asked for. I try to make sure that I am able to provide the 'big' thing they each want every year.

I would not want a present disguised as something else. That just is not cool. The worst gift I got was a bunch of stuff ordered off of QVC that had this weird smell to it. I ended up donating it because I did not have the heart to keep the stuff in my house. I might as well do it for a tax credit and maybe somebody else might appreciate it more.

My brother actually played a little bit of a joke on my son this year. At the last minute he switched gift tags on his gift. So instead of his present he got a baby doll. We all laughed. He did not think it was so funny.

Im really not sure if there is such thing as worst gift. I value gifts given to me very much regardless if i could use it or not. I would already appreciate it if someone could remember me. Its just that i appreciate the feeling and effort they made to make me feel special and remembered. Even if i wont be able to use what was given to me it would already make me happy just seeing the gift and remembering the feeling that someone also remembers and cares about me.

I'd honestly rather have a card and a photo, a phone call, an e-card, or a visit from someone, or homebaked goods - than a gift anyway. What I meant by worst is something disguised as something it's not (like the Xbox 360) that causes sadness and distress to the person when they find out they were duped, or something that you totally cannot use, or don't even know what it is, because the point of a gift is not just a thought but something that a person might like and can use, or has a special meaning. The best gifts encompass all three.

I don't really think there's such a thing as a worst gift, because after "it's the thought that counts". But probably there would be a gift that we hope not to receive. Mine would be a picture frame. Each year I get at least one picture frame for a gift. It's almost like I'm collecting them already. I was hoping I don't get one this year. But I did! It's weird.

LOL! I've actually given those as gifts before. BUT usually the recipient wanted it, and I go buy a nice one and get it engraved. I've never just bought a cheapie frame and given it. My MIL gave me a frame one year so I just put photos of the kids in it. I had told her not to worry about me, if she was going to get anything it should just be for the kids. I'm not close to her so it's not like it mattered. Even just a card or phone call would have been cool.

Ohhh that was aweful. To a kid it would be hard for him understand that he seems got fooled by people. It would take quite sometime before he forgets and forgives. I jsut felt sorry for that kid. But, soon he would be laughing if he recieves the gift he likes. and the memories of what happened to him will just remain a bad and funny memories. ohhh yeah very horrible. I just know the feeling of being betrade or anything. I do received gifts that I dont like but I do appreciate and thank the person who gave the gift to me with all my heart.. knowing the effort and the money they soent for that. so what I do with the gifts since I'm using it. I re-gift it. And I choose the person who I think would like it and give it to him/her instead.

I have regifted from time to time too. I mean what else do you do with something that wouldn't fit you, ever? Or something that you just might not like at all - but you know someone who would? Like I know people who dislike peanut butter. If they got a bag of Reeses, they could pass them on to me. I LOVE peanut butter.

i think that there is no such thing as a worst gift..any gift should be accepted on the presumption that it is given sincerely to someone...an exception is when it is a prank gift..this is different and honestly it's actuslly no fun especially to the recipient of such gift...but any gift should be welcomed....and let's not forget that nowadays economics play the most important consideration when buying gifts...

That is true if the gift is given with good intentions but some people can be jerks even when it is Christmas.

Ok maybe you're right, but that's considering good intentions. Nobody with good intentions is going to make a little kid believe they are getting an Xbox 360 and then put clothes in the box. Most kids don't really like clothes anyway, parents like clothes lol.

I believe anyone that makes a valiant effort to actually go out and purchase a gift that is personalized for someone is truly a gift, whether the recipient likes it our not. They should receive it graciously and come to myLot and post here about it!! My worst gift and hate them, beyond hate, is generic gift cards. Gift cards to large stores, such as those stores that have clothing, housewares and groceries (I'm not sure if I can mention brands here), but they are the "Marts" of our world. Now I love eatery gift cards, or specialty clothing gift cards that are only for me. The "Mart" cards...well, I will buy groceries for my family, or necessities that we need for the house. It's just how I operate! So don't give me one of those! I will not get myself something! I will buy everyone else something! Get me a "Secret" gift card by all means!

Gift cards are hard. Some people LOVE them, other people think they are horribly impersonal and get insulted when they receive them. Now, personally I like to receive them if a person doesn't know what else to give me, if it's because shipping something would cost a fortune, or they know I can buy what I really wanted with the gift card. I like to give them if someone suggests them as something they would like and would use. Sometimes I will even ask what they bought themselves - to see if they used the gift as the gift it was lol. I mean it would be disappointing to give a gift card to a friend in order for them to buy the digital camera they had been wanting - and then find out they bought toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and an Xbox game for their kid.... I usually prefer to give restaurant or movie cards - something entertaining where the recipient could go out or have a date or otherwise enjoy themselves. Grocery shopping or household shopping is not really 'enjoyable' lol. I also face the problem of people who spend gift cards on OTHER PEOPLE. I have even done this from time to time. My friend caught me and got mad, she said it was supposed to be for me to spend on ME. Now I feel the same way when I get something for her, so now I get her specialty things only, like STARBUCKS.

Pranks are really the worst agents next to surprises. using pranks with giving gifts completely shatters the essence of the gift which is to make them happy. in my case i received an underwear for our Christmas party... wow

The worst gift? Well I think mine is topping lists this year. I got paper for Christmas from my uncle and his wife. Yes, paper, writing paper. 600 sheets of the stuff and there is no way that I need that much of it. I doubt I'll even open it up.

Why do you suppose they gave you paper? That's just odd. I know someone who got a box of ratty old USED towels one year, I don't know why and I know they went right in the trash before the recipient's baby got ahold of them.

Videos like that are becoming more common with the advent of sites like YouTube, and even before then with TV shows like "America's Funniest Home Videos." Some people just want their 15 minutes of fame even if they hurt others to get it.

I can see pranks played on older people, teens, adults. Those can be funny, I mean think about Jackass. I just don't think it's quite the same with little kids, they still have faith in people. They aren't cynical, corrupt. They have wishes and hopes and honestly do not believe people are out to get them, hurt them, fool them. Kids are still innocent and gullible. I think it's important to protect that until they get to be teenagers and then they unleash it back on us lol.

The worst gift I ever got, was a glass(it says crystal) "thing" from my aunt. I don't even know what it was!.. but I'm told it was a glass figure of a pig.. I turned it upside and all around.. I didn't see it being a pig.. it was a glass glob.. anyway.. I have it on my piano.. and everyday (just about) someone comes in a turns the little thing over or around.. cause they don't know what it is either! lol!
