Do you reuse gift bag or gift wrap?

This the time of give and take of gifts; no matter how old they are, every one like to give and take gifts at Christmas and New Year. During this time of the year we have to do lots of gift wrapping, have to buy lots of gifts bag or paper to wrap gifts. Personally I reuse a beautiful gift bag if I really like it and if it is in very good shape. When you get a gift in a nice gift bag, do you reuse it to give a gift to someone else?

I sure do. When I get those gift bags, I save them, and then when I find an appropriate occasion and when the gift is weirdly shaped, then I will stick the gift in it, cover it with tissue paper and then hand it over. Sometimes I get the gift bag back, sometimes they keep it, and someone else gets the bag and eventually it may wind up back to me. As for wrapping paper, if the paper is nice and no one has ripped it to pieces, I will use it, but not that often. I hate buying gift wrap, but we were smart, we bought a lot and still have some from two years ago.

We also don't go to professional gift wrapper, may be its cheaper to buy a very nice gift bag than got o pro.

Sometimes it is years later and I look at the bag, and I think, say that seems very familiar. Anyway I am sort of a cheapskate and I am terrible at wrapping presents. I should go to a professional gift wrapper, but as I said, I'm cheap.

I got a beautiful gift box that was printed with a design that made it look like it had lace over it and it had a beautiful red silk ribbon on it. The box closes with a magnet so it doesn't has to be torn or ripped in any way to open it. It looked so pretty I want to keep it and store small items in it. Because it came with a beautiful and personal gift I am not reusing it for someone else.

How nice to hear you had a similar experience, and thank you for taking the time to make this reply. I am glad you were able to get the box and can now store your stamps in it. I love the art of scrapbooking, but I just can't seem to find the rest to do so. I do lots of other small, time consuming crafts, but scrapbooking hasn't been one of the things I am getting good at, lol. Have a great day!

Seeing this response made me think of our Sunday School Christmas party. There was one gift that was in this beautiful box. It was actually sold at Wal-mart like that I later came to realize. But I picked that gift just for the box. I wanted the box for my clear scrapbooking stamps to store them in.So I have my box. It came with a bath set that was nice but I got it just for the box.

We are always saving gift bag and the tissue that is used to hide the gifts in them. We also save and reuse some wrapping paper. My granddaughter get that really strong stuff that is shinny. You can't tear it when unwrapping the gifts that are wrapped in it. We iron it before putting it away. It can be used for more than just Christmas.

Its a really good idea to iron it. Have learned new things today:).

I tend to not reuse gift wrap because it's so hard to reuse that in my opinion. It always gets torn up and you really can't use that to give a gift to someone else. I always try to save the gift bags if I can however because those can be reused. My mother took the bag she used for me last year and reused it for my gifts again this year. I even took boxes that I recieved mail in this year to put gifts in so I'm trying to reuse what I can when I can.

We should always reuse things whenever we get chance. This is not only to save money, but also to go green.

I usually reuse gift bags if they are in great condition. I don't see why we need to buy new gift bags if the bags we have are still in good shape.

depends on the material of gift wrap and condition. some materials doesn't look old so i reuse them instead of buying new ones.

I normally reuse the gift bags as long as they are still in good shape. If nothing else I use them to hold other stuff just so they get more use.

LOL. As my children were opening their presents from my Mom I was gathering up the bags that they were in. They were brand new and brought in and handed to them. So I think it was a good idea to gather them up and reuse them or if someone forgets to grab some you can give them to them too. Gift bags are great to reuse. Although if I want to be able to reuse them I have to hide them from my daughter. She loves them. She would rather have those at times than a toy. She uses them to play store with. And she will tote her toys around in them. She has a blast with them.

I have few female friends who's birthdays are close to Christmas... Sometimes I'd make a little mark inside the gift bag when I get them a birthday gift & more so than not, when I get a Christmas gift or my birthday gift from them, I check for the mark, just for curiosity, I see that they've re-used the bag I gave them... I don't have any problem with that at all... I do it myself... Only reason why I do that is because I've heard about it few years back & ever since, I've started to notice how similiar the gift bags were when either my girl friend or I get a gift from someone who is our mutual friend or family members... I thought it was a good idea & we started doing it... May be it's because I'm a guy but I find it hard to re-use the gift wrap, though... I'm not really good at wrapping anything, let alone a gift, & when I open a gift, I usually tear them open so it makes it hard to re-use them... But a bag, definitely re-useable...

As often as I can. If it is still in good shape, it is good for the earth to reuse it. Even if a gift bag is not in good enough condition, you can use it for lugging stuff around and worn gift wrap can be used to decoupage items for fun gifts, too. I also reuse old Christmas cards. The photo ones I save in my photo files and the others I cut the front off and reuse as gift tags. Grandma always said, "Waste no, want not!"

Nowdays, more and more beautiful bags are used when you have bought goods in stores or some special shops have famous grands. These bags are so attactive that you will think that the goods worth the money you paid. In the other hand, these bags are so beautiful that it is hard for you to throw them out of your home as rubbish. Usually, I will collect the beutiful bags together. However, I think it is not polite to use the old gift bag or gift wrap no matter how well it remains. This may have some relation with the charaterics of the people living around. Anyway, use gift bags or gift wraps repeatly is a good habit as it can save a lot of paper and it is useful to protect our enviorment.

i always open a gift very carefully so as not to spoil the gift bag or teh gift wrap paper. i keep it all away for use when I have to give a gift. It is not the cost really but the ready availability which is important. When you have to give a gift and you have nothing to wrap it in. these come in very handy.

I do reuse the boxes and bags. I usually use the recycled ones at home or with family members that it will not make a difference.

hello sweetlady, I am a practical person especially now that life is getting harder and harder. And because of this, I am reusing or recycling gift bag or wrapper that are still okey and good to look at. This way, I can save some money and I can also be an environmental friendly, for not having a lot of trash.

I also reuse gift bags, if they are in good condition. I don't mind the thought of other people reusing mine either. Money is tough to come by, especially these days, and I don't think too many people would blame one for trying to save a bit on wrapping supplies. I only will use the gift bag if its in really good condition though, because my friends and family deserve the best. But yes, I reuse bags, though I don't reuse wrapping paper.

Reusing gift bag is also environment friendly, so we should always do that as long as it is in good shape. And also in giving gifts feeling matter most.

Not only do I reuse gift bags but also the tissue paper. I too do not write on the tags attached to the bags, so that the recipients can reuse the bags. I have given gift bags in assorted sizes as gifts to people, so that they reduce their use of wrapping paper. A friend made fabric gift bags many years back. Her family members return their gift bags to her after opening presents, so that she can use them again the following year.

Thats nice of your friend. Actually we can return any gift bag in between family members, we don't need to be so formal.
