It's blizzard conditions outside...do you go out or stay home?

It's been very interesting the past year plus that I have worked this call center job. One of the interesting things has been the number of people who will call in the middle of blizzard conditions, or freezing rain, or other extreme weather, to find out if we are open for business. WHY? I have not been able to figure this one out. Of all the times to be staying put at home, why is it that so many people seem to think they just cannot stay home? They have to get out and go shopping or do anything but stay at home where it is safe and warm. Shall we make clearing the roads more difficult for the road crews? Or shall we tempt the fates and not be involved in an accident in the slippery conditions? What do you do when the weather is extremely bad?

I know what you mean. I hated having to drive to or home from work during those kinds of bad weather conditions, including bad fog. I am so glad I don't have to go out of the house anymore when it is nasty outside.

Well some places start to close early if it's getting really nasty out and sometimes they start to close roads down or at least have advisories out and it isn't calling for any let up but supposed to get worse out. I like to try and venture out at least to the store in town,I just like to get out in the mess for a bit.

Our business never closes unless power is totally out and the generators are not doing the job. We get callers wanting to come out to the business even when the authorities have declared road emergencies and only important travel is allowed, such as for medical help.
