The In-Between Times.

Between birth and death, beginnings and endings, we all enjoy innumerably experiences that often go by unnoticed but in reality are worthy of celebration. These in-between times are rarely landmark occasions, it may be that you are grateful for being alive and able to spend time with the people you love. The smell of the fresh air, a beautiful sunrise or sunset, a favourite cup of tea can all be a reason to celebrate. Celebrating these in-between times can be as easy as paying attention to them when they are happening. The next time you are at a family gathering, take a few minutes to set alone and watch the children at play, the grandparents sitting in their favourite chairs, the food spread on the tables and just give thanks for all the love that surrounds you. When you next take a walk in the country, slow down and allow yourself time to take in life's wonders and remember that without the little in-between times, there would be no big moments to celebrate.

I love weddings and engagement parties, not into the small stuff. I wish I had been able to bare children so it is hard celebrating other people's children and it seems that when your children are adopted, technically your granddaughter is not yours, but who is talking about technicalities. That trip to Alaska, to the Prince Edward Island, all through the Northern States was a good reason to celebrate and that we were able to do it before my husband's stroke. I am into big events.

Your welcome. I really loved that Alaska Cruise. It was the first time I had been on a cruise - coming over from England to Halifax when I was three did not count. Could not remember much about it, except that I had the top bunk and my brother had the bottom one and he was sick.

I am just grateful today that I am still alive - that I still have love, a future, and opportunities in the next day. I have seen too many endings and the worst part about an ending is the abruptness of it. The sweetest parts of life can be little things, little moments, little treasures. The things I remember first are a mix of small and big things.

It is simply amazing how two minds can coincidentally think alike. Prior to selecting a topic to comment on, I sat on my bed in a daze. While I was in this daze I thought about how calm everything was and how peaceful I felt at that very moment. After a busy day and a lot of running around, I was able to just sit and exhale; to enjoy that moment that was given to me. It's a wonderful feeling and everyone, as you mentioned, should take a few minutes to just acknowledge such moments. Thank you for such an insightful topic. (It's been quite some time for me, but hopefully I will be on Mylot more often from now on). All the best in happiness and health for the New Year and always. Be blessed, be safe, and always positive.

Hi Pose123! These in between times are those times that have carried me all through the storms in my life. These are the blessings that I have counted and cherished that made me find peace and love in my simple life. Since I have lost my mother so many years ago, I have learned to value all those people I love and tried to to give back as much love as I can. I learn to enjoy every minute I am with them and I enjoy every minute that I am at peace with myself, with the world around me and with God. These in between times are those times that I look forward to each day of my life and these in between times made me hopeful when I am experiencing storm in my life. Happy New Year! God Bless..and take care always! Lovelots..faith210

You are absolutely right Pose123, the in-between times mean a great deal to me. It has given me a lot and made me re-live my lost days through my child. It has taught me to appreciate and value even the most insignificant happenings of life.Yes, life is full of mystery and wonders and if we are not able to cherish the tiny in-between times, then we surely will not be able to celebrate the big moments of life.

Sometimes we forget about all the love that surrounds us all the time ,and we preoccupied ourselves with nonsense instead of appreciating the many blessings that we have at this time.

This is so true, and its sad that we have to be seniors before we can grasp that truism. Last evening we went to the Dairy Queen with friends. We had a nice time, but when we were driving out we were nearly broadsided by a young boy speeding out of the drive-through. This lad was just flooring it and never gave a thought that he was endangering 4 lives besides his own and his girlfriends. Hopefully he will get the picture before its too late for him, and his friends.

Hi barehugs, The old saying "Youth is wasted on the young" often proves true, but then we have to remember our own youth. We may not have been reckless drivers, but the seniors then probably shook their heads at our antics and wondered what the world was coming to. For most of us it does take the best part of a lifetime to recognize the truth, and not always then. Thanks for commenting. Blessings.

You are absolutely right that we need to appreciate the time we are with people dear to us. On occasions of family gathering or friend visits, I would take out pictures taken way back. Everybody shows pleasure and excitement about the years in the past, and cherish more the joys with each others' company. Time passes so fast, so enjoy the present, do our best for our elders as well our youngers, and keep a good memory of our lives.

I remember this one time - everything was going wrong in our lives...so a bunch of friends decided to go on a trek...we huffed and puffed our way up..(fitness wasn't one of our strengths obviously) and just to reach up there and have the clouds pass right through you... was more than just beautiful... as the clouds cleared up..so did our minds. Things became so clear as to what each one of us had to do in life... sometimes it does help to stop and smell the roses...if not anything it helps you appreciate the fact that you have a nose... :-)

Sometimes it's hard to see with such a fast paced world. But you are very right, in my opinion. The little things make life all that much better. I love to take walks a night for not reason at all and go sit on the bench at the park to stare without worry or thought at the natural beauty around me. The big moments are rare and very memorable. But the little moments that are more frequent lead up to them and are usually priceless (as opposed to an obtained item). Little moments with a boyfriend/girlfriend can lead to marriage. I think you make a great point, we should slow down and enjoy the in-between times.
