What do you think of Canadians?

Canada
December 29, 2008 2:00am CST
I just want to hear what people from other Countries think of Canadians? I know that Canadians are often seen as polite but I've also heard some pretty negative comments of Canadians. Just wondering what you all think of us? Any sterotypes you've heard of?

All the Canadians I met back in college were friendly, open, and humorous. I have never heard any negative stereotypes of Canadians.

Bob and Doug McKenzie ...and ....Red Green could be considered stereotypes, I suppose. But pretty loveable and not really negative at all. I would assume that most people would be aware that they were not representative Canadians.

The only thing that I know about Canadians, is that they have a high tolerance for cold. I hear it gets pretty darn cold out there.

lol I wish. Well a lot of us do. I'm from Vancouver which is pretty temperate. We have the same weather as Seattle. Its very rainy most of the time. Lately we've had a lot of snow and temps ranging from -1 to -12 but that is unusual. Usually its 5 or 6 degrees Celcius in winter. Summers are 14 to 30 degrees celcius. I dislike the cold strongly! I can't wait to go somewhere nice and hot.

You hate cold weather, but you live in Canada? Oh my, you should run right out and catch a plane to Nevada, Arizona, or come on out here to California. It never snows in Los Angeles County. At least, not since I was born. I was dreaming of moving to Seattle at one time. The snow is what deterred me from leaving. I hear that in some parts of Florida, it does not snow. I may need to head out that way, hehe. I am tired of California.

hehe California does sound nice. Don't get me wrong I do like the snow. When it snows for one or two days. Only about a foot at most. After that its too much.

I don't really know anything about Canadians. Heard they don't care too much for American's but not sure if it is true or not. One thing I do know they can keep that cold weather cause I can't handle it LOL.

I happily stood in the longest line of my life this past November waiting to vote, rain and all. Bush can't get pushed too far into history for me. Right now where I live on the east coast in South Carolina the weather is pretty nice, kind of warm at times but nice all the way around. I live just enough far south that we do not get snow and if we rarely do it doesn't stick around for very long. It is supposed to get around 20 degrees C/70 degrees F today. It will not start to really get cold here until around mid January.

Its not that we don't care too much for American's its that we often get confused for Americans and its annoying. Americans and Canadians have very different outlooks. Canadians tend to lean more to the left on political issues than Americans. A lot of us don't like the American Government. Not fans of Bush. My family is very excited for the change to Obama. Whats the weather like where your from?

Being from the UK, I haven't met too many Canadians, but I did know a Canadian family who lived nearby when I was a kid. I used to play with the kids of that family and we had great fun together. I remember them telling me all about Canada and how our winter climate was warm in comparison to where they came from. As a result of those conversations, I didn't really fancy going there to live in winter-time. I also had my best friend who was from Norway - I didn't fancy going there either! :-) Derek

Yes Canada is very chilly in parts of the country. WInnipeg is probably -30 degrees celcius right now. WHere I live is a lot more temperate. Its about 5 degrees celcius. Mostly just rains. We have a week or two of snow some years but most years we don't have snow at all!

I have always heard they are very stupid people. I don't know if that is true since I have never meet one. I don't like stereotypes, they are usually very misleading. Such as I have heard Mexicans are very abusive and mean. I don't think that is true either because I know there are lots of mean people all over not just Mexicans. Everyone is mean to everyone. I only judge after I have meet you and I know the true you. I do not go by stereotypes for anyone.

Well it sounds like you have heard some good things about Canadians. I"m not sure if the speed of life is any slower than in America. I think it depends on if you live in a big city or small town.

Hi, I dont differentiate people according to their nationality. Its a wrong thing to do for me. I believe every one is proud about his country and if some one responds here saying that he /she is not fond of canadians is an indirect disrespect to canada itself. Like u and many others i have canadian friends. I have a friend from toronto an old man and he is a wonderful man. A lot of Indians are settled in canada and living happily, so i have a lot of respect for both canada nad canadians. Cheers, Tutul

Its nice that you don't judge people based on their nationality. I try not to but sometimes it is hard to shed sterotypes. When I meet each person I treat him/her as an indiviual though. It is true that there are a lot of Indians in Canada. One of my best friend's in high school is half Indian. I had a lot of friends of Indian descent in High School. All were very nice people. I found it very interesting to learn about their old country.

hi,monkeyrose! well, i don't know many canadians either online or in the real life..the first Canadian i knew about is Henry Norman Bethune who is a surgeon..u know, i'm in mainland China. despite of his communist party status, he's truly a great man..another Canadian known in my country is Dashan(AKA Mark Rowswell)who has been called 'the most famous foreigner in China', where he has worked as a multi-faceted performer, television host and cultural ambassador for over 20 year..he speak Chinese more fluently than many ordinary Chinese. also i had met some overseas students from Canada in my college and i remember one guy can speak Chinese very well although he just have stayed in China for 4 days..so that make me thought all canadians are talented in languages..lol as the online canadian friend, i only know a few on mylot here and find them very friendly and polite like u.. have a nice day and happy new year!

Vancouver is on the west coast of Canada. In general we are very outdoorsey here. There is lots of stuff and parks to visit. Whistler (which is a world renowned ski resort) is a two hour drive away. We're having the 2010 winter olympics here. There is a lot of cultural events in Vancouver. The night life isn't as great as compared to montreal or toronto but there is stuff to be done. It is very multicultural here. We have suburbs with large quantities of certain ethinic groups. There is a large Indo-Canadian population, and a large Chinese- Canadian population base. Right now I work with two girls from Taiwan and one from Kenya. My sister-in-law is Japanese. She immigrated here about 2 years ago.
