Please see that this is only meant for non-native speakers of english.I know that it is easy for a non-native speaker to write english as he or she will get time to think, reflect and recall. But when it comes to speaking it will be difficult to maintain that flow as in writing if you are not a fluent enough in english. Please tell me honestly, how do you rate your fluency on a 10 point scale.

Hi Cosmo, First of all Happy New Year to you. For me, difficulty to speak fluently in English but I can write fluently. I studied in a 'Malayalam' medium school (regional language) and born and brought up in a village where, people believe that speaking in English is as showing vanity. After graduation I joined with APTECH computer Centre for learning computer, where I felt very difficult to talk with class mates and teachers because there, everyone was speaking in English. So I started to learn to speak from there. After reaching Delhi, I was struggling to learn to speak Hindi also. Now I can manage to speak in both languages but I think it is not good to judge myself so I have select the mark 5 out of 10.

I grew up speaking English so I guess I'd give myself a nine out of ten - mainly because it's impossible for anybody to be perfect in a language. =P I make my grammatical errors; everybody does. I have more trouble speaking than typing, not because I don't have enough time to think, but because I'm shy around those I'm not close with. Of course it's much easier to avoid making mistakes when you're on myLot or something of that sort because you can proofread, unlike in the middle of a conversation. Anywhoo, to sum it up, I'm very fluent in English because it's the language I grew up speaking. However, I have some trouble in conversations with those whom I don't know because I tend to fumble over words - especially the "big" ones because I feel stupid. I should get over that one day. =P

I am a Canadian and I speak English fluently but I still wanted to respond to your discussion because I try to support all my friends and respond to all of their discussions. I know a lot of my friends here in mylot aren;t real good with English but I wanted to say congratulations to all of them for they are members here and trying. I think mylot is a great site for non-native English people to learn and to improve on their abilities by being a member here and participating. I had problems with my typing skills because I was out of the office work force for the last 7 years and since I have joined mylot my skills have greatly improved. Thank you to mylot for this wonderful site. I am happy to see a lot of my friends English has improved over the time they have been here. I see it in their postings. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good mylotting day, Chris
