Both of my children have learning disabilites. It is hard i think these days for the schools to handle as many children with these conditions. I dont think that there are enough trained people in the schools to handle this. Dont get me wrong my children have some great resources teachers. But i think that many more need to realize that they cant teach these children the same way that they teach the others. I know that schools expect alot out of children these days but there are some kids out there that can not do everything that is expected of them. I just wish more help or monies were given to the school budgets to help fund the teachers so that they could understand and learn how to work with these children.

I have been a teacher of students with learning disabilities. I started my own tutoring business so I could help students, especially ones with Dyslexia, because my hands were tied in some ways at the public school level. In business, the parent's agenda became my agenda. I formed a connection with my students and taught to their strengths. I focused on first building self-esteem by providing immediate success and then I began to fill in the gaps. Sometimes all that is missing is a basic skill and the student is able to take off. One on one instruction is always best, but hard to find in the public system. Not all children learn the same way, but all children learn. Finding a tutor who can bring that information through a different window, a different modality, makes all the difference in the world. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your response, my youngest has a severe case of dyslexia, but he retains everything in his head. he is i 8th grade but should be in 9th was held back in kindergarden. he has been on the honor roll for 3 years straight. but i am so afraid when he goes into high school that he will not get the attention that he has now. like i said there are some good resource teachers out there but i really think the other ones need to be skilled in a bit of the way that they need to be taught. again thank you for your response.
