Cassel to the Lions?

OK, so here's a thought... With the worst record of any team EVER, the Detroit Lions are entitled to a number 1 draft pick. The Patriots are no strangers to trading players to other teams for their top picks. What if the Pats were to work a trade to Detroit - Cassel for their number 1 pick...

I would love that idea, provided of course the Pats trade down and get multiple picks as they always do. Or they draft a player and trade him, either way they get more picks. As for Cassel to the Lions, I think it will work.

Of all of the possibilities, I think this is the one that I would most like to see. At least with the Lions, he will be out of the division as well as the conference. I really hate seeing a former player (at least one that had been beneficial to the Pats) play against and beat the Pats. For instance, it was great to see Deion Branch actually help the Patriots playoff chances this year when the Seahawks beat the Jets 13-3 in week 16. I would really be upset if Cassel went to another team that could play as spoiler to the Patriots chances next year. With Mangini out and Favre debating retirement (again!), the Jets might be looking to Cassel (my thought, no rumors to that effect yet) as their next starting QB. THAT would not be cool. I would hate to have to hope for Cassel to lose.

Certainly it is all just speculation at this point, but it is fun to discuss.

As a Pats fan, I would hate to see Cassel go to the Jets. That would just be a conflict of interest for me...and for the Pats.

OH MY GOSH!!! I was totally thinking of that. Totally fell in love with Cassel this season. And that says a lot because I soooooo don't like the Pats. Sorry Thor, I know you love them. But this season I actually wanted them to win. When I heard that Cassel might get his walking papers I thought . . . Lions!!!! On the other hand, I think he should campaign to be traded to Los Angeles. Oh wait . . . . :(

Geez...walking papers...sounds so harsh. Cassel proved that he can be a starter and I would be happy if he stays with the Pats, but I would be happy for him if he gets a good starting job somewhere else, too. The Lions would work well, too, as the Pats wouldn't have too many opportunities to play against them. I would really hate to see a situation like the one that occurred with Pennington and the Jets...beating your old team to kick them out of a playoff position.
