Are Your Pets Impressed By....

New Year's? Okay I thought I would start one of my thought provoking discussions here. I was just wondering for those of you who have pets...do they seem "impressed" by any New Year's celebrations you have? Do they try to sneak a drink of the bubbly? If they do, do they get tipsy? Do they try to steal some of your onion dip, or potato chips, the pepperoni off your pizza if you had it...how about those Vienna sausages? Or finger sandwiches that you may have had for your New Year's Eve celebration? In other words, do they enjoy the celebration as well? Or, are your pets like mine and just couldn't care less? My two are doing their favorite activity at the moment....sleeping on my bed. Boy what party poopers. Oh and by the way...I plan to get my number one ranking back for this interest...since I started it....I've been ousted by a bear...and if you're wondering whose picture that is in this interest group..why it's none other than me.

My dog is very easily impressed by any function that includes food and people.. although by 12:00 she was barely able to hold her head up and growl when she heard the fireworks going off.. Good luck on the #1 ranking, I have now done my part, Have a Wonderful New Year!!!

My beagle Buster is not bothered by foods of any type actually. He is well behaved and has never once grabbed food from the table, a plate etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'm not a party goer for New Year's either and it was quiet here on the home front...LOL ...my mother and grandmother told me though that when they were younger (long before my arrival into the world) they used to go to Times SQuare..ekkk..I could never stand the idea of being around so many people

I am the type that has never really celebrated the 1st of the year. To me it is just another day. The only thing is that it signifys the start of a new year. Why do we need a National Holiday for this in the US etc? Why isn't there an End of the year Holiday as well? Just my thoughts this chilly morning/afternoon. So to answer you, my Buster has never seen a celebration nor "bubbly" or booze of any type as I have not drank in almost 18 years. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well when you think of it a lot of nationalities or religions have their own New Years...like Chinese New Year...since there is a heavy oriental population where I am, all stores are closed that day even their supermarkets near me..I just think New Year signifies a brand new start...a full clean page of opportunities and maybe goals to set for one's life, sort of an opportunity to begin again.

Well pye...having virtual food at my virtual party, my cats only had the choice of chasing a virtual mouse!!! They did good up until the neighbors started with the fireworks. Then they got a little weirded out!!! Once the fireworks started, they took turns attacking each other. Actually, it was quite interesting to watch!!!

Impressed? Ask my younger dog. She hates New Year because of fireworks. She is shaking and she is afraid to go out. She is glued to my legs and she looks into my eye with unspoken question.... No drinks for me. They get special treat because of New Year. I spend fabulous New Year eve in my bed...sleeping over midnight.... HUGS

My Pyewacket was interested in the sour cream, so of course gave him some. Nope, don't think my kitties would like the vienna sausage either

Our chihuahua's are impressed with any food we bring out of the fridge and consume! Our cat wasn't impressed either. Then again, we didn't have anything to eat like that. Just went out to eat, and that wasn't even special besides the fact that we hadn't been out to eat for awhile. Now Christmas.... Yea, they were happy to get their treats!

Hey pye! Nope! My boys were not impressed or too happy either! They just wanted Mommy's attention and were whinning as usual! In fact, Star is in here now yelling for no reason! I don't know what's with them lately. They have been very screamy and clingy! Luna keeps jumping in my lap when I'm trying to type and Star jumps in front of the screen! I don't know what to do with my little furries! I just love them so much so I can't even yell at them even when they are annoying me! We just watched tv until really late last night and today I am in a very cranky mood! Not a good beginning to the New Year! Did you and the kitties have fun? I hope you had a better time them me! I see you still have your party hat on so does mean you're still celebrating? lol

Gee...sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this...I'm way behind in everything. Well New Year's Eve I watched the ball dropped..I fix finger sandwiches of ham and swiss cheese and made a vegetable dip with sour cream....I gave Pyewacket some of the sour cream and he loved it...other than that he and Kissy weren't too impressed...had some champagne too

Our four legged members love the company but after the greetings are over and they know no one is going to sneak them food, they loose interest. Self interest dictates their responses. Glad you got your rating back. Enjoy the new year.

Our two cats are in the category of not being impressed with anything we do, or anything we eat. Given the chance, they most prefer their own quiet (interpret that as sneaky) celebrations after we've either gone out, or have gone to bed. They like to roll fruit off the table, we've found apples under beds several rooms away (some kind of olympic distance game). They also like archeological games going through trash to learn more about us. They do this by dumping the tall kitchen trash bucket and spreading the contents out over any open surface to observe and think about. Several choice 'finds' are squirreled away, perhaps to sell on ebay or somewhere. They, of course, have perfected acting techniques of looking like the perfect innocents when we find the results of their activities.

Their success just goes to show their advanced knowledge of mind games that they learn from a very early age. Sometimes I think it would be interesting to be able to read their thoughts as they interpret our refuse....other times I'd be afraid to know...lol. Thanks for the BR!

Well the dog that took up at our house is definitely impressed with the holidays because she sure got her share of the food. The cat's on the other hand are doing their aristocrat routine. You know the one where they turn their nose up at everything? So now that I have typed all this let's get a look at that picture.

My cat definitely seems rather curious as to what is going on. Tonight I was making a cheese ball and as I pulled out the cheese and started to open it my cat ran at me and sat at my feet the entire time just staring at me hoping that I'd give her some. I didn't tempt it though because I'm not sure she'd actually eat it even if I did give her anything.

My pets did not like the news years celebrations because the neighbors where letting off fire works and the banging/popping noise was scaring them. Petie and Daisy May where both in their kennels but they where both barking and carrying on. As far as sneaking or taking our food well Daisy May is bad at trying to steel food from me. I am working on that problem with her. Petie has manners and will not steel food off your plate nor does he beg unless you a friend of mine is here and she feeds them while she is eating. Which I hate but she does not respect my wishes enough to stop it. Your answer is no they do not like the celebrations.

I do not like it when we get shell shocked from thunder also. Petie hides under my desk or on my lap, he just does not understand that that big noise will not hurt him.

Your Petie sounds like my kitty Kissy...she's terrified of just even hearing the pitter patter of rain and will go to one of her hiding spots...and forget thunder...freaks her out all together..as for Pyewacket..he couldn't care less...

[b]It happens that a couple of my acquaintances gave me a huge ham as a (belated) Christmas gift (they know how much I love ham!!!), so I gave a few bits to Miss Minnie as a new year's eve treat, & since she ate them I gave her a few more. Not checking to see whether she ate those, I continued to drop bits down to her. Then I glanced down, saw her nose one of the pieces, then lick it, then get up & walk away! The little snert! She'd let me drop 5 or 6 pieces after she'd obviously lost interest--& you know I'm not gonna eat those scraps after she'd finished nosing them about! See if I give HER any more precious ham! Ha! Thought I was doing Pyewacket a favor..I gave him some of the sour cream I got to make my dip...dolloped some on a plate and he licked it like crazy..so gave him more...he sniffed at it then walked away...sheesh

I usually do not have a party at my home because I rescued cats for 25 years. I usually go somewhere for any celebration on New Years. If there is fireworks or any loud stuff all my animals go nuts. Cats hide and dog's shake until it is over. It is the same thing at Chinese New Year and Fourth of July. They do not like fireworks at all. Being a vegetarian they are not interested in nything but bmaybe cheese. I have had cheese stolen my a quick cat.
